when is it TOO much resolution

ok...sooo my dad brought home an extra sony CPD-G520 today, and the res runs all the way up to 2048x1546

im running my desktop at 1600x1200 and my games at 1280x1024

but it is run to run the full res when messing with photoshop and stuff

its funny to see my computer bench like a 11k in 3dmark03 normally, then bump up the res and it goes all the way down to 4k at max,

laughable that its still better than my 5500 was back in the day at 1024x768, and im at double the resolution

anyway, i was wondering, the options im runing at, are they basically optimal??? i cant run 1600x1200 on this card, once i upgrade in a couple months games might be doable at the resolution, but not yet

Although the monitor is rated for video up to 2048x1536, the dot pitch makes the optimum resolution 1600x1200, so your settings are probably about right.

I love these 21 Sony CRT's just picked up one myself a while back. 1600x1200 is sweet. I have been running Q4 at that res..

That's the thing, CRT are cheaper than LCD for a larger screen! And they can take a lot more punishment than LCD. For example, true story, the other day when i was reading a post on another forum, i was suddenly "attacked" by a moth. I didn't realise what it was but it made me jump out of my seat, in the process, i knocked the desk and the LCD monitor slammed onto it's front. Luckily, the screen didn't crack, but now, whenever the monitor's switched off and then on again, it blacks out and the only way to solve it is to switch on and off a lot of times, after which it is fine. With a CRT, that wouldn't have happened, since they're not as delicate.

As for the original question, that res is fine, the most i can have mine at is 1152 x 864. I would run at 1024 x 768 but i run out of space for icons on the desktop .

Nice car btw

I beg to differ! If your 21" CRT monitor had taken a face first onto the floor it would be in much worse shape than your LCD is.

Yeah. Unless you pushed the desk over with a forklift that 21" CRT wouldn't go anywhere.

I think I may be getting a clearer picture now. Everyone here is crazy.

Well, don't want to be different, do I?
