Some stolen pics. Third pic is x1950 on top, x1900xtx on bottom. Notice the lack of one FET on the x1950, meaning lower power consumption for higher clocks(for the mem, of course):

I'm looking at getting one of these for a new build. Got to assess monetary situation though. Along with an E6600 on an Asus P5W DH.

Well, thats the plan, the budget will hopefully allow.

To be honest, this card is almost an X850XT all over again. Two months after buying this card, you will feel like an idiot after you discover you've blown your money on an obsolete card thats depreciated at over $200/month.

SM3.0 has been around for two years now, since the NV40 release in 2004, and SM4.0 cards are due so soon that this thing is pointless. R600 is expected in the November-February timeframe, with the G80 expected around the same time, maybe a bit later.

Just like X850 owners discovered they had purchased the winning entrant in the race, after the race had already ended, this will follow the same course.

To be fair, a 7950GX2 is an even worse investment than this piece of junk, so make an effort to avoid both of them.

If you buy one cheap as chips, the 7900GT is a good budget card, but if you wait 2-3 months, it will drop price considerably.

Its also like the 9800xt era, which was the last of the 9000 series but it was the best they could eek out of that design philosophy.

I do believe the G80 is expected to arrive before the R600, but after the R580+ (x1950xtx)

Card apparantly draws more power than the x1900's.

A single X1950XTX draws more power alone than a dual-GPU 7950GX2?

Shamino has a point... I wouldn't have picked that.

And clock for clock, its slower than the X1900XTX, just like the X850XT was slower than the X800 clock for clock.

The 3Dmark tests that show the 7950GX2 wiping the floor with both ATI cards really goes to show how useless 3Dmark is as a comparative tool.

ATI's "Overclocker" DOES LOOSEN MEMORY TIMINGS, as does ATI's "Overdrive", and "Overclocker" lossens them far more than "Overdrive" does. This means that the GDDR4 was not using the same timings at all, in comparison to the X1900XTX, thereby giving the X1900XTX a significant lead...it's quite easy to tell how bandwidth limited the R580 core is already, when made into a X1900XTX, as they use the same core on the X1950XTX. We know full well, DSIO, that any clockspeed-comparison should net the same or slightly different scores...it's still an R580!!!! The only thing different is the memory, and more importantly, the timings! X800 to X850 was a core change, which netted the lower scores.
