7900 gt firmware volt-mod?

Hey all! I'm a total newB on this site so please cut slack if I break protocol. However, I've seen that the 7800 gt model cards are firmware upgradeable to increase voltages -- and therefore increase clock speeds for tasty OC goodness. My query, therefore, is this: if it can be done on a 7800, why can it not be doen on a 7900. Or more to the point -- can it be done on a 7900 gt?

I've read the articles in CPU and such about the 'pencil and masking tape trick', but I like things done a bit cleaner/easier than that if possible.

Anyway, thanks for any help you can offer. Hang Loose. . ..

There is a thread here on the 7800GT. Should still work on the 7900GT. It is a bios mod. I did it to my 6800 and it did wonders...

HERE it the thread....and Welcome to AOA...

Eh. Just practise soldering on some old parts, and have a go at the hard-mod, I say. Using a variable resistor is a lot cleaner than a pencil mod, and gives better granularity. It's really not that hard either - I managed to do a few hard-mods with hardly any previous soldering experience, and nothing exploded.

This does not work on the 7900GT, a volt mod using conductive ink is required, there are also other hard-mod methods.
