Geforce 6 volt modding?

Hey monkeyman i,m here to learn how to volt mod. I have a gainward 6800gs agp 512mb card. It overclocks nicely and dsio suggested volt modding might be the next step.
Tell me what u think guys.

Post some close up pics of your card, front and back, and we'll help you out.

I havent modded a 6800GS before but it might respond to the soft mod to increase core voltage by 0.1v.

Modify your 7800GT BIOS!

A few people have found this works on various 6800 cards.

Do people still have floppy disks any more? :\

None of my computers have had them for over 5 years. Not because its old quite as much as because it looks ugly in your case, and has a stupid ribon cable that gets in the way. Overclocking is as much about looking cool as about being cool after all.

I do have the rounded cable for it, but I don't have the power connector for it, as I use the top one for my Audigy drive, and the bottom one I butchered and turned into a GPU +12V connector as it has its own dedicated line from the PSU.

More than anything I hate the look of the things. It makes a computer look dated and ugly. At the front I have two black drives, a slot load DVD ROM (black) and a tray load dual layer burner (black), an audigy drive (black), the rest of my bays are blanked off.

It gives that cutting edge look, where a floppy looks so 1980s.

Fortunately, when it comes to recovery, a floppy controller is simple enough that you can fit a filesystem handler, a floppy device drive and some basic I/O routines into 4K worth of FLASH. Can't do that with a CD-ROM or USB device.

Mine was done very early in the piece by a mate with the identical card that had lifted a 6800UE BIOS from an engineering sample he was reviewing at the time. So I personally have never actually done it to my own computer, though I've done it to a few others.

Thankfully both my old EPoX 8K3A, and my new Abit AV8 allow you to flash their BIOSes from within windows through awardflash and uGuru respectively, so I have never had a need for a floppy.

I heard very early in the piece that a major manufacturer, I think it was either IBM or Gateway was dropping floppys completely, and I jumped for joy at that point. I've always had a pet hate for ZIP/Jazz/LS120 drives as well. They're ugly as sin.

Soon as I heard they were dropping it, I took mine out and threw it away. I don't think I even have one left in the house, other than my laptop's external one.

Mind you, to be fair I use my DVD drive / burner about once a month if that. I have all my CDs copied to my hard disk for easy mounting, as I've had a fear of damaging original copies ever since my Civilization II CD was crushed under the wheel of my chair.

I have more memory sticks than you could poke a stick at that I also rarely use, and between house wide Gigabit / 108Mb wifi, and a 24Mbit/2Mbit ADSL2+ connection, I consider portable storage more of less useless to me.

I can send something over network or even internet in about the time it would take to arse around looking for a CD/DVD, convince Nero that I know what I want and I want it now, and burn it.

When you're downloading crap of the internet at 56k, then a floppy or CD or flash memory is a massive help, but when its that fast, save the stress involved in bending down to your case on the floor and biting shrink wrap of a CD with your teeth and just send it lol.

I love how off-topic things get here.

In any case, Sam's put some great effort into this article, which Gizmo is about to put up (yes, hassle him if you like, everyone else around here does) and it explains everything very well.

Hats off Sam.

Well, the article is great Sam........very informative. I guess i am out of luck on doing this mod unless i get a floppy drive though, bummer. I will have to look around the house and see if i can dig one up.
