Digital speakers to analog

I've got an old 2.1 speaker setup that only plugs in the digital 1/8" plug. I have had problems with it working on several computers even when I select digital input for the drivers.
So I was thinking if there was a way to use an adapter or even splicing the cable so it will plug in the analog 1/4" jack so I can use it like regular speaker.
Or is it a matter of where the analog-digital converter is?
I bet the converter is in the subwoofer....
Any suggestions how I can get these to work?

The speakers are expecting a SPDIF digitalstream (That's PCM audio, NOT AC3!) at about 0.3v peak to peak signal. That SPDIF stream is then converted back into analog internally, so the speakers can handle it.

Converting the speakers to run off analog will require you to locate the digital to analog converters and then perform a modification to the circuit to accept an external analog signal.

ok, I got a digital expansion board for my soundblaster.
Its pretty cool... a separate card with digital SPDIF and Lightpipe I/O
and MIDI ports.
But my speakers have an 1/8" plug and the card SPDIF has an RCA type of plug. Is there an adapter for this or can I just use any 1/8" to RCA adaper?

If your speakers are designed to handle SPDIF, I would expect they would have a compatible connector on them, although I admit that I am not terribly up on all of that.

These are old speakers that were left at my work. So I don't have any of the origional stuff except speakers and cables. I'm thinking of just tossing them out because I havn't been using them due to the Digital only aspect. But if there is a way to use a regular 1/8" to RCA adapter then it would be cool to see em work.

SPDIF is normally presented either optically (TOSLINK) or over coax (RCA). Some equipment does use 1/8" jack, but it's not a standard per se. The centre pin on RCA goes to tip of the 1/8" jack.

Ok, got it working!
My Soundblaster live card (I got for free from an old computer)
has an expansion card with digital inputs as noted in my earlier posts.
Well I bought one on ebay for about $12 w/ shipping.
And I found that the digital output for the speakers is an RCA, it just came with an adapter that had an 1/8" jack. So I unplugged the adapter and used a plain old audio RCA cable plugged it into the card set the properties to digital only and it works. Now I can use my digital speaker instead of leaving them in the closet.
Thanks guys.
