Which to choose?

In a couple months i will doing my new build, and i am planning on using a mid/high end DirectX10 GPU.....my question is, who do you think will have the better choices for mid range cards? The new R600 models look like they will be an awesome choice, and from what i read it looks like they will be a better buy than Nvidia, but i want to get some opinions from those who know more than i. This choice will affect which motherboard i will buy, since it will between crossfire or SLI. I will not be able to afford the top of the line cards, but somewhere in the middle, so what do you guys think? Please help.

Can't clearly tell the full midranged line up for ATI and the 8800GTS is the lowest you get for DX10 for a while.

What would be your budget around the time? -- that should determine your GPU choice.

8600Ultra will be nice when it's released in a few months. Not sure of release date but it's not too long away AFAIK.

Well, around the time i do this build, i am planning on spending around 200-300 dollars on a video card, with 350 being the max. I should be able to get a pretty good card for that money dont you think. A few months after i finish the build i will probably get a second video card for SLI/Crossfire. I am hoping that some good choices for video cards will be out in April, since my birthday is in April, and that would be a great time to do my build.

Yeah, don't even bother with SLI or crossfire. Seriously, it's a waste of money. Your best off buying the best single card solution you can right now and when it's time to upgrade, sell your old card and get the next best single card you can. In two or three months when you do your build, the 8800GTS 640MB card should be around $300 (the 320MB cards are there now). Only after we see the mid range cards (8600's, etc.) out for a while, will nVidia release the next gen cards (8900s, 8950s, etc..) which will still leave the 8800GTS as your best bet. ATi won't have anything for a while in mid range (the R600 isn't that much better than the 8800s and it's cost at release will be astronomical). I would def focus on an 8800GTS for some time to come.
