| RADEON HD 2900 XT (R600). Performance In Game Benchmarks Digit-Life Today we'll see how the newest RADEON HD 2900 XT (R600) graphics cards perform in game benchmarks. We conducted two test sets: a complete one under Windows XP and a brief one under Windows Vista. Note that we have also obtained test results for the 2900 XT overclocked to 850/2000 MHz. | It seems we've gone back to old ati days in which the drivers stink. It is certainly odd to see the performace (fps) go up when the resolution goes up thats quite a 'feature' that several reviewers have reported across several different games. The only applicaiton it seems to do well in is 3dmark 05/06, seems it'll make the scoreboys happy but thats all. They have had to price it really cheap (for there flagship card) to try and shift some as its performance is in the GTS ball park which is a £200-250 card ($350-400) It is also worrying to see its older brother the x1950xtx beating it on several occasions and usually by some margin. The only dx10 bench i've seen is of a dx9 game patched to dx10 by AMD in which the 2900xt still looses and nvidia have said wait for the official patch before testing it on our hardware, they have tho released a driver update which fixes the bugs created in the amd specific bench.. results here ...http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/431/17/ |

| What bother's me most is the fact that I've been left waiting, cash in hand for six months for AMD/ATI to get its act together, based on the promise of something at least reasonably superior, and based on AMD's promise to fix the abhorrent state of their flglx graphics drivers. As far as performance goes, I feel sick about not buying an 8800GTX months ago for this thing. And as far as that drivers promise, AMD lied. Flglx is currently worse than its ever been, in terms of performance, reliability, and support. To put it in perspective, one of my mates recently switched from an Nvidia 7600GT to an X1950XT since the price dropped, and is now back using the 7600GT because World Of Warcraft was virtually unplayable with the Radeon, even with the latest heavily advanced Cedega engine running on Ubuntu. I'm waiting for an AMD PR guy to jump out from behind the curtain and go 'Ah, just kidding guys, here's the real R600, the one that doesn't suck'. Bitterly disappointed.

hense why I'm thinking about waiting for the 65nm model now.... I dont believe this is all were going to see from this product. Possible future driver realeses might help, but this result has been discussed for some time; mediocre DX9 performance, but excellent DX10. kinda like when the FX series was introduced, they looked comparable to the 9800's....until you got games fully loaded with DX9 features and all of a sudden you looked silly for buying one. I'll wait for word on the 65nm; if its either too far down the road or too much, then I'll invest in the 8800.

| Well, OS is up and running properly now(had some RAID and installation issues), so I'm about to get some baseline numbers in Vista using the X1950's, and then I'll pop in the HD2900XT. I recently aquired a 112 gallon fish tank, complete with inhabitants, and it is taking up alot of my time as of late, as fish do not respond well to moving, especially not 500++ of them! Most have died (as expected), but alot of recessive genes have come forward in my tank, so benching this card is not the most important thing right now...I've got 12 females dropping live young @ about 15/day each, and need to rescue them from getting eaten by the older ones! So, I'll have pics and such over the next few days, actually as soon as the battery is back charged for the camera, I'll toss some up!
