Media Center

Ok A couple of minor issues here.

Firstly, Hibernation. I prefer to Press H and hibernate my PC as although it starts up perfectly quick enough it means I can keep documents open etc.

However, my PC has started to randomly wake itself up. The other night, my PC awoke me at 3am. Nobody touched it. It just decided to come out of hibernation.
I am thinking this may be an issue to do with memory allocation, but I'm not sure. I'd really like to fix it...

Secondly, and the subject of my thread, is an issue with TV Tuner card playback in media center. My picture is fine with the tuners own software, however in media center it is very stop start and juddery. It's unwatchable. I am aware this is a codec issue. My Tuner card is my fabulous Leadtek Dtv1000t.

I hope you AOA fellas deliver again!

About the random waking up - have you tried using another keyboard? If that is the method for waking it up then maybe it shorts itself out or reports a keypress that didn't happen if left alone for a long time?

That is worth a try I think

It doesn't respond to the keyboard - you have to Power the system on to awake it from hibernation.

There's a number of events that can wake the system up from hibernation. These include PCI devices, the RTC (real time clock), USB devices and more.

When a system is hibernated, the power is shut off to most components including RAM. Therefore I'm not sure that your idea about memory allocation is necessarily correct here.

It was a wild guess Aédan. I'll try and investigate but I can't think what would wake it up.

The RTC bit is cool if you want your system to wake up at a certain time in the morning however.

I could have it wake up, load iTunes or whatever and play "Wake Up" by the Boo Radleys at 7am.
Not sure what everyone else would say to that though!

You might get woken up by the noise of the machine getting itself sorted before it got as far as loading iTunes!

And remember, early morning is when our computers are most likely to be talking about us!

Paranoid or visionary, what's the difference? ":O}

Or in my case forget that you had left the speakers on very loud the day before and find yourself thrown out of bed / deafened by the opening riff to "Hurricane 2000" by the Scorpions

At 7 am.

My poor neighbours
