This doesn't greatly surprise me:

From Sony's perspective, the PS3 is a Blu-Ray player that happens to play games as well. Sony are really chasing the hi-def video and home entertainment center market more than the video-game market. The PS2 is still selling very well for those that want a game machine, and the PS3 is horridly expensive for them to produce, so they've really got little incentive to drop the price. In addition, projections are that even after all of the fallout settles, they'll still have 50% of the console market with the PS3, but more importantly (to Sony) they'll have MILLIONS of blu-ray players out there, waiting for blu-ray content (and we all know that the content creation market is where they make the money; movies and games, not players and consoles).

Are sales doing better in EU than the US?

No price drop in the UK, they're offering a bundle at the same price. In other words, they're over-stocked on certain accessories and games, so a bundle is a way of reducing stocks of consoles and other items.

The bundle is a good deal, but only if you actually want the extra stuff. But, if you don't have £425 ($800) to spare, then it's no good at all.

They have a vote on the BBC website, and out of 30,000 votes, 82% would prefer a price reduction.
