What a surprise, Intel doesn't think that GPU physics is important.

That was a little confusing. So Physics is done by the CPU now?

AIUI physics has been done on the CPU for ages, there was a case for doing it on the GPU because the GPU is well suited to physics calculations while the CPU is more of a do-it all workhorse. However with the advent of multi-core CPUs it is starting to make more sense to offload physics to an idle CPU core again

I see. That does make sense. Having a third GPU dedicated to this would work also wouldn't it?

Yes, however from what I gather the Havoc engine was the only one that supported GPU-based physics calculations. Now that Intel have purchased them, the Havoc engine has basically disappeared, so no one can take advantage of it.

Yah, AMD's been talking about that for what, a year or so now?

Whaddaya wanna bet that when the Havoc engine is finally released, it only works on the Intel GPU implementation?

I still have a couple of PC's laying around that use it. (dual cpu's even old PIII's) I godda admit for a system that ran at only 866mhz it was/is a decent box.

But the best part was that Rambus was soo reasonably priced. That set off a revolt among users that Intel finally responded to, what, 18 months later? They really wanted us to swallow Rambus. The stuff had great latency for that time, IIRC. But it cost like an equal weight of gold. Literally.
