Researchers crack encryption, 'own' 27MHz keyboards

Senior Editor, Dark Reading

European researchers have hacked the 27Mhz radio-based wireless keyboard.

Max Moser, and Phil Schrodel, researchers with Switzerland-based Dreamlab Technologies AG and Remote-Exploit.org, have written a proof-of-concept for capturing and decrypting keystrokes from Microsoft's wireless keyboards. The POC lets an attacker capture confidential data as the victim inputs it....

I doubt any wireless keyboards or mice use encryption. TBH, wireless keyboards... why? for desktop use you might as well have a wired one. same goes for mice, actually.

Same here... I think wireless keyboards and mice are technology for technology's sake rather than an attempt to improve anything

Hmm... well the argument for them to be wireless is a bit better, what with the fact that the cables are usually stretched across rooms otherwise. And there aren't as many security implications - how many of us type in our passwords with a keyboard? And how many do it with a wiimote? ahhh yes... my point exactly

Imagine capturing the wiimote

"button A, button A, button A, .... damm this password is easy, they just pressed button A about 20 times."
