Buying new card; Advice?

So, I'm getting a new system, and along with it, a new card!

I have about £200 (+/- £20 or so) for a new card, but can't decide on which to get.

Will be using it for insane gaming sessions!

Which one shall I get? :S The 3870's look tempting, but I'm not sure if they're better than 8800GTS/GTs or not.

The 8800GT 512MB and the 3870 are relatively close performance wise, so I would say it would just be a matter of personal preference and price difference.

I have the same 8800GTS favu does and it performs very well in everything.

Are you able to get a 3870 over there yet? Still waiting on stock to show up over here.

Stock's good over here. Can't get a 8800GT though.

Yeah, 8800GT 512mb is a little better in Crysis and such, but stock for them is really low anywhere in the UK atm. I'm hoping to get my hands on a 256mb version.

3870 is not as good as the 8800GT, but the price difference is quite a bit. I don't know how much either will run you in GBP, but I have a 3850, first ATi card ever (well i had that 9800 in my back up computer once lol) and it impresses the hell out of me. On my 2.85Ghz Allendale w 2Gb ram I can run crysis on 75% high 25% med settings at 1368x720. The 3870 will only be better!
