Right there, my friend, you have what is called a personal preference. I will have my opinion, others will have theirs and when you get to the end of the day....What is it do you want? Is money tight and a fewer less fps don't bother you that much, you've answered your own question. In fact you've pronely already know which one you want but are a little unsure. Unless you have something specific that one card has and one doesn't-get the one you want. That being said, I chose the 9600GT because it out performs the 8800GTS. That was MY preference.

It's better than the GTS-no question.

I'd surely skip the 1GB 9600GT, the card simply isn't powerful enough to run at a level that would require that much memory. Should be able to get a 9800GT 512 for close to the same price.

Some of the 9800's are built on 55nm instead of 65nm, outside of that they are the same card. The 9800's can be found for a little less money than the 8800's for some reason.

Because MS hasn't made it yet... ![]() As far as "what's the best graphics card" is up for debate & really a matter of preferences. But in General, the more expensive cards will be the "high performance" cards. So the more you can spend, the better. I'd like to get a 280GTX myself, or a 9800GX2. ![]() But to answer your question: I wouldn't go with anything less than a EVGA 9800GT. Why EVGA? Because they OC really good!!! Example is in my signature...That's a 27% OC on that graphics card! But surprisingly with my current card OCed it does quite well on games. Even Crysis runs at 70 FPS at medium settings & 33 FPS on High. ![]()

If that 9600GT is the same memory as the 8800GT-I'd grab it. I'll get some dissagrement from some people here that know a lot, and I do mean a lot more than I do but the numbers I have in front of me say the 9600 is the hands down winner. Two of us were setting up a heads up contest but my 9600 got taken out by a motherboard that died. Do your own research. The numbers are out there. I bet if you tried you would find a review that tested them heads up. Find out.

![]() This will limit the number of shaders the card can simultaneously render fast enough to have decent frame rates with any kind of graphics quality & screen resolutions... There's a Very Big diff between 64 & 112 stream processors. Even my old card I'm using now has 96. ![]() That's why I said I wouldn't go any lower than a 9800GT which has 112 stream processors. Believe me, it's worth the extra few bucks more to buy it. ![]() Such as this card...and after OCing it (by 25%+), it will be extremely fast!!! ($124, $109.99 after rebate) This is almost the same price as the Palit 9600GT but with better performance & almost twice as many stream shader processors! You can OC this to the 9600GT clocks as well or even faster using EVGA Precision OCing Utility! ![]() EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

You got me there MUff!n, the core is down by 50 but that might not even be true, as I don't have the manufacturer for each reference I have, and it wouldn't be that important anyway.......but 112 to 64-well lets just say I have to got to the bathroom and let it go at that! ![]()
