Evga 9800gt Bsod

I just horse traded my way into a 9800GT 512MB DDR3 that is almost new. He said he never installed it and none of the assorey bags had been opened. But there is a problem. If I run 3DMark06 I get a blue screen every time. I can run 3DMark03 with no problem.
The driver I'm using is the new 180.48 32 bit. Should I try different drivers? or is something else going on?
I have just done a clean install [things were getting a little buggy anyway] and there is very little installed beyond the necesary drivers.

ATiTool is what I used to use for overclocking my 8800GTS before EVGA Precision came out!
So yes, it works for both ATi & Nvidia cards...just not as good for Nvidia. Not as many options opened up as with ATi cards.

I installed it but it crashed every time I tried to save something. I've made an error in my install. I need to prep my drives different and now is the time to do it. Back with you in a little while.

Make sure you are using ATITool v. 0.26 as the newer versions will crash because they are beta.
You can download this via AOA files. Just click on it.
Not sure how this will do with the newer Forceware drivers either.
The last stable version that worked well with this utility & my 8800GTS was 163.75_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whql.
So this may not play well with yours as the 9 series cards came out much later after this utility was made.

Hey porpor, could you give us any details about the bsod?
Usually the first line, and and the file names about half way down are enough.
It could help to see if you have a bad card, bad drivers, or bad luck.
Also I hope you removed, including used driver cleaner or similar, all old drivers before installing the new. Windows driver rollback is a good idea, but causes issues, often with nVidia video cards, and some network cards.

I appologize to you and others. this happens when different threads start following the same thing. There was a comflict somewhere-didn't even try to find out where. My rig was acting buggy for the last month or so and that was jus the straw-I formatted and have been re-installing software. With a quick OC-E4300@2.4Ghz and none on the 9800Gt hit 11076 3DMark06 so it's cool.
I am going back to the 9600GT 1GB though-I trust it more-and i like it more! Agian, my only excuse is i was to busy to know what the hell i should do next! [I still don't have spell chk!]

Thats cool, if an overclocked rig isn't 100% stable, sometimes it takes a while, and something unrelated can seem the problem.

Unfortunately, overclocking requires patience and time. A couple of things I'm short on (also requires my main PC which I need to see why it died).

I reccommend Arcronis or similar to image your machine (as has been said before) its almost mandatory when doing what you are doing. But if you are changing hardware alot, do an image before installing the rest of the drivers for your system.

I'm trying, Lord knows, but I think I'm going to get this set just to see how it goes- and then do it agian in a week or two as a final to do Arcronis-it is installed. I'll mess around this install- but the next will be clean. No OC, Nothing but strait and clean-then back that up.

That is what you need to do to be absolutely positive that the Image is going to be "Perfect", as that's what you need to fall back on once you start OCing. Then as you make progress & your system is still working correctly make additional backups while still saving the original.
This is the reason I have 4 backups. The very first one though is before I start "TwEaKiN" my system...

You keep talking about spell check. This is part of Firefox 3.04 if you use it as a browser although all it really does is point out your mistakes more than correct them for you. Not as good a Office Word for corrections if you know what I mean but I use the United States English Dictionary addon extension which is pretty good & better than the default spell check.
You can even use ANY sites that require IE if you have the IE Tab extension installed on Firefox. Like MS Updates, I update using the IE engine from within Firefox
so I never have to use the Internet Explorer browser.
Look at the screenshot. If you are wondering what theme that is, it's the Aero Silver Fox Basic.

I don't know that they ever will as Gmail is still in beta & how many years has it been around now?
