At this point, I'm looking real hard at two brands. The Steelseries Is the one I had befor finances had me sell them. Mine didn't come with it's own USB soundcard so I dont know if that is a plus or a minus!
Newegg.com - steelseries 51002SS 3.5mm/ USB Circumaural Siberia Full-Size headset USB (white)

The other one I'm just starting to look at is a Razor Barracuda-a $45 price drop calls for some investigation!
Newegg.com - RAZER Barracuda HP-1 Razer HD-DAI(High Definition-Dedicated Audio Interface) Connector Circumaural Gaming Headphones

Quite possibly the best gaming headphones I've come across. They're PHENOMENAL!

I was going to buy some a while back, but they were way out of my price range. With a price drop, it's worth some serious consideration.

I just ordered the Razor from Newegg for $80 and free 3 day shipping.
That was a lot easier than a new motherboard, which is my next hunt.

The reason the name Sennheiser keeps popping up is they are one of the best audio headsets you can get or use!

Their highest quality ones (you can't buy them on newegg) are used for Studio Recording work.
I know this because of the studio work I've done in the past...
The Sennheiser headset I was using were about $500 & the Sennheiser recording mike was $1500...

I could have got a set of Sennheiser 210's or 201's -something like that for about the same price as the Razor. The reviews were good and you guys gave a to anything Sennheiser . the reviews I READ ON BOTH-independant not Newegg or Amazon or any where else that sold anything-just told me the Razor was a beter set.
Ann I'm a sucker for a $45 price drop!

Senn 201s have a good rep, do a little search before purchase as the razor phones are not too bad either. The really good sennheisers are the HD555 and above, and while they're expensive new, they're cheap second hand, and are nearly always well looked after and reliable, don't be afraid to ebay a higher model.

For some reason, I did,t even concider ebay for this, but none of it matters any more.
As my 'ol pap used to say, " You put your dollar down....you takes your chances!"
The dollar has been put down and just about any thing is better than this used pair of Koss that I have now!

EDIT:
I discovered yesterday that Windows now has the full software for my Soundblaster Audigy in Vista. I've just been using drivers alone. This is a big improvement already! If what the reviewers said is true, I'll get the Razors to dance! Dialed in right, even these Koss's aren't something you want to strangle yourself with.

OK, I need help. I got the Razors yesterday morning. I haven't heared a sound ou of them yet. I have SoundBlaster Audigy so I started with that-got the latest Vista drivers. no joy. So I removed the card and went to the onboard sound-no joy. I went and got the latest vista system drivers-no joy.
And before someone feels they just have to ask: the USB is pluged in, the volume controler is lit up and the 4 controls are set. Ok, that's over.
The Razoers were the only thing in the box even though they say it uses 8 diferent drivers. I called Newegg and they knew nothing about a disk and in all the google spots might mention the drivers but not where they come from or about any disk.

EDIT:

It's somewhere in Vista. I dissconectected the razors and connected my logitech 540 speakers-nothing
I've tried diferent Players but no change.
Two days is to long to get a headset to work!
Any Thoughts?

Just a guess, but this looks to me like Chipset driver or audio driver problems because you aren't getting any kind of audio at all.

I had tried a number of differwnt driver sets-Realteck for the onboard and then the sound blaster.
I finialy did the sure fire test; I dumped Vista and installed XP. Staring with the on board Realtek-the logitecks played fine. Nothing from the Razors.
Installed the Soundblaster. Logitechs ar fine.Razor is DOA. I've got them in a box with a RMA number from Neregg. I'll send them back on monday.

OMG PPM, you got the worst luck of anyone I've ever seen when it comes to HW...
Through all of this there has to be an upside!
You've been going on the downside for awhile now.

Btw, I still say the Sennheiser headphones are the best you can buy.
Sennheiser (the company) has been around forever for good reason...Quality & reliability.
Everyone knows the Germans make good stuff!

I got some realy glowing reports on these to and how do you realy know? I have to assume a good set is realy good-a couple of people said that here and the independand reveiws all were good some accually drooled!
But If they are DOA, how do you judge that?
I do the best I can. These are powered USB but windows never did recognize them.

Thank you very much! but what's ironic is that the new board will be here Wed. or Thurs. and I've had a couple of builds in mind for the last couple of months. No time like the present. I'll have the time to plug them in, listen to 1/2 of Lady Godiva [Dr. Hook] to verify that they work and then it's time to mod!
You are going to just love this one! It has nothing to do with dogs and cats this time, but you might ask your Gordon fisherman!
