Right after install, perfect. Two weeks later?

Wonder if anyone else has this problem. I have two Creative Soundcards. One's a SB PCI 512, the other an SBLive! Value 5.1.

After a C:\ wipe and fresh Win98SE installation, and fresh installation of both cards(not in the same box simultaneously) the sound is great. But.. 5 or 7 days later, little glitches can be heard. Brian Eno's little Start Windows .wav gets momentary losses in volume, or maybe brief distortion(s).

Am I the only one with these little PITA's?

Assuming you're using the latest drivers (chipset and sound) you may be getting some harddrive performance degredation.

Sound issues are the worse

LOWER the amout of stuff that you have installed. MY GUESS is that during the 5-7 days when it was working you started to install MORE and MORE software. This would cause windows to take longer to start and to because of having to load more, thus not having the cpu cycles avalible to play the file.

Defrag. I do almost every day. Helps alot. And get a registry cleaner. Some of the stuff you uninstall leavs crap in your registry that slows everything down.

Good advice VyrmMaster. Care to offer a link to a site that has a reg cleaner?
