Thinking of getting a kodak http://www.kodak.co.uk/global/en/dig...3J53QHIO2SHWGI I'm thinking of buying that digital camera to use for taking still photos of various things (my PC for instance). Its called a Kodak DX3500 and costs just over £150. I'm really after some nice picture quality. Anyone ever used it? Anyone recommend a certain camera?

It's a 2.2megapixel camera, with no zoom and a fixed focus lens. (Note, I don't count digital zoom as zoom, as it degrades the image) The lack of an optical zoom might make it worth considering something like the DX3600 instead. It's basically the same camera as the DX3500, but with a zoom lens on it. The fixed focus lens on the DX3500 means there's no autofocus delay, but there will be a slight loss in quality, although at 2.2MP I suspect you wouldn't notice it. The camera doesn't seem too bad, it's not a stunning performer, but it's a little ahead of the average. Don't forget that it's only got 8MB memory internally, so you may want to figure in the cost of a compact flash card too. Mind you, there's not much around the £150 mark that's 2.2MP. The HP318 is 2.3MP, but with a slower imaging system (ISO 100 vs ISO200 for the Kodak) and a lack of macro facility. Same internal 8MB memory and CF slot. No zoom. The Canon A200 is 2MP camera, again without zoom, but with a very good macro. It also has a focus illumination system to help the autofocus when there's not enough light for it to operate properly. Comes with an 8MB CF card. AidanII

The C220 doesn't look bad actually. You're right, it does cost a bit more, but not /that/ much more. The C220 includes an optical zoom, up to 114mm equiv (3x), which can be handy ![]() If you can find a Jessops or similar near you, they should be able to let you try out different cameras. That should help you judge which ones you prefer... Then you can buy elsewhere if you want. AidanII
