nv4_disp.dll errors while playing 3d games

I am running the following spec pc...
AMD xp 1800+
512 Meg DDR333 pc2700 Ram
60Gig Matrox HDD 7200 rpm
nvida 64meg Geforce4 mx440 Tv-out
Liton DVD
Liton cd-rw
win 2k
350w PSU (I think)

using win2k. Sometimes when I am playing 3d games, the computer will lock up with the BSoD and give me a nv4_disp.dll error. I have tried reinstalling the graphics card, used different detonator driver and even donwgraded from win xp to win2k.
Still happends and no change there.

Does anyone have any ideas ??

Thanks in Advance.

PS I have not overclocked anything.

Have you re-downloaded the driver or tried other drivers for the card? There may also be something you set in the bios of your MB that could cause a lockup/BSOD (like fast writes).

RAM issues could also cause lockups, but anything mentioning just a video driver is typically directly related to the vid card.

I don't know how warm it is right now, heat also causes video bsod.

Sounds like an nview problem. Remove current driver and use Detonator Destroyer to be sure all traces of the driver are gone. Reinstall the latest driver and when the nview thing pops up after you reboot, hit cancel. Then run msconfig and disable anything related to the nvidia driver at start up. This should help out.

Ummm... are you getting the Infinite Loop error?

I'd go Googling for what people have done to alleviate that, as there doesn't seem to be just one cure-all for it. I experienced it after testing 15 different nVid drivers back to back. Finally fixed mine by reinstalling my 4in1's, but that doesn't fix everyone's.
