nVidia 40.71: the fun never ends

OK... here's the latest offering from nVidia:

nVidia 40.71 Beta for WinXP/2K

Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment, I'm in the process of d/l now. A HEFTY 14.8 megs, too for xp/2k.

Here's the link for 9X nVidia 40.71 for Win9X, a couple of megs smaller.

Be back after the d/l and testing to give my results. :-D

OK... sorry for the delay... I just got through building a new box... with a bad 8KHA+ (no secondary IDE or Floppy channel, but that's another thread).

In my humble opinion.. they didn't perform as well as the 40.52's. Lower 3DMarks by about 70 points, so I wen't back to the 40.52's and ran the test again... back up to the 7640 range on my GF3 TI200 at stock vid card frequencies.

But, MAN, that sucker took awhile to d/l. about an hour for me.. nVidia must be getting hammered pretty hard, I could only get about 2.7K d/l speed on my puny dialup.

Seems like I've been spending WAY too much time d/l and trying out Detonators this last week, I've about got my fill.

Be interesting to see someone else's results, tho.

Been reading around about people's results. They're saying the .71's fix some issues with UT2003 and Quake3.. so I might give them another go. I don't have UT2003, so it never dawned on me there might be problems with it.

3dmark2k1 dropped 150 pts with 40.71's.

Back to 40.52's.

I'm working now to down/upload them to aoafiles... I think I'll just stay with the 40.52s unless I encounter any gaming issues...

I was wondering whether the 40.71 were better than the 40.52's as well.

Normally when drivers get bigger in size performance may go down. Perhaps it was for stability that they perform slightly less in 3DMark.

Did anybody see whether some of the other features work. eg Hardware tab or temperature tab and the other ones that did not work even after activating through reg entries?

I know AGP tab is only suppose to work on Nforce.
