9700 pro?

Hi,
my mate want to give me his 9700 pro card :p as he is upgrading, however i allready have a 9800se card (256 bit) which card is faster at standard speeds? (i not sure i want to overclock as i wrecked my old fx5200 overclocking it)

the 9800 se would be faster. Have you tried to softmod the 9800se with the omega drivers? It will unlock the extra pipelines and turn it into a 9800pro i think.

www.omegadrivers.net

just download the newest drivers and then when installing there will be an option for softmod of a 9800se.

i tryed that i get lines all over the screen so that option is out

its just that the 9700 pro has got more pipelines than the 9800se but runs at a similer clock speed

if you cant unlock the 9800se, then i'd go for the 9700 generally a faster card stock wise as it has the 8 pipelines by default instead of the se's 4

thats what i thought but then i thought why would ATI make a card that is labled as a 9800 when a 9700 is faster?

The SE range is a budget range. It's a marketing ploy. Companies can now offer PC's with 9800 Graphics. To the consumer, would assume that the SE (second edition) would be an improvement. However it isn't. It's also a way to make use of chips which have a defect in the core.

i hate that!

It is a cruel trick, Both ati and nvidia have done it in the past. People to associate SE with either second edition or special edition, yet its more like slower edition
