9700 pro? Hi, my mate want to give me his 9700 pro card :p as he is upgrading, however i allready have a 9800se card (256 bit) which card is faster at standard speeds? (i not sure i want to overclock as i wrecked my old fx5200 overclocking it) |
the 9800 se would be faster. Have you tried to softmod the 9800se with the omega drivers? It will unlock the extra pipelines and turn it into a 9800pro i think. www.omegadrivers.net just download the newest drivers and then when installing there will be an option for softmod of a 9800se. |
i tryed that i get lines all over the screen so that option is out |
its just that the 9700 pro has got more pipelines than the 9800se but runs at a similer clock speed |
if you cant unlock the 9800se, then i'd go for the 9700 generally a faster card stock wise as it has the 8 pipelines by default instead of the se's 4 |
thats what i thought but then i thought why would ATI make a card that is labled as a 9800 when a 9700 is faster? |
The SE range is a budget range. It's a marketing ploy. Companies can now offer PC's with 9800 Graphics. To the consumer, would assume that the SE (second edition) would be an improvement. However it isn't. It's also a way to make use of chips which have a defect in the core. |
i hate that! |
It is a cruel trick, Both ati and nvidia have done it in the past. People to associate SE with either second edition or special edition, yet its more like slower edition |
