7100GS...sounds absolutely terrible. Please someone go up to the graphics card companies and say stop releasing new models, it's driving me nuts.

They have to market for the type users though (IE: business users) who need quite insane CPU and memory bandwidth requirements but care about video cards.

Onboard video is normally out of the question, because motherboards that have good overclocks, to give high CPU performance and memory bandwidth dont have onboard. Thus, low power crap video cards are required. Well crap, by enthusiast standards but quite addequate for business use.

The above is a GENERALISATION so dont quote me on it. :)

I dont think most business' are into overclocking. I'd much rather trade speed and take stability which is the most important factor in the business environment.

Are these rebadges? If so, are they trying to shift excess stock, possibly for the arrival of G80?

7900GS, oooh, gnarly, a high-end 7 series with DDR2, who ever heard of such a thing. As for 7950GT, sounds promising for the enthusiast. But 7100. OMG, i can almost guarantee that it will be worse than the 6200TC, with the exception of memory. TBH, i think TC is bad in practice because it leaks a lot of your system memory which is sometimes needed for memory intensive tasks. It's the same as ATI's hyper-memory, which hasn't been seen for a while AFAIK.

But seriously, who is gonna be SLI-ing 7100's. Ok, with TC, it's a 1 gig of effective GDDR2, but even so, it's still not gonna be as effective as say a single 7600GT. Please, nvidia, stop releasing the low-end cards (i.e. 7100GS) and concentrate on the 8 series. The 7900GS i can just about accept, but please, no more "below low-end" cards, please.

The thing with the 7100 is it will be perfect for a HTPC that required the video chip, fully featured hardware 3D support, but not much more than that. It also allows you to use DVI, S-Video etc, which you don't get with an onboard solution.

I bought my 7300GS for this very reason. Its never run a game in its life, but it does everything else, including running XGL from time to time, and 3D visualisations.
