I noticed a slight improvement in the mid ranges. Hope everyone enjoys...

Given that you're just talking about a software update, rather than a hardware "tweek", that rather surprises me. The hardware actually has the final say in how the midrange sounds.

On the other hand, I don't want to think what would happen if the drivers tried to output a 192KHz stream to the CODECs, given that the Audigy 2 can do this.

Mind you, there's not a lot of difference between the Live!, the Audigy and the Audigy 2. The biggest difference is between the Audigy and Audigy 2, as the Audigy 2 has a seperate path through the DSP to handle the 192KHz stream. Other than that, the core of all three cards is pretty much identical.

Having said that, even the AWE32 used the same EMU 10K engine, so it's quite conceivable that a lot of the "advances" have been little more than software updates, rather than a hardware change. That'd cut down the cost of design work, as most of the card design was done back in the days of the AWE32. Talk about cash cow. (Might also go to explain why Creative don't seem to provide that much support for older cards).

Note, this is all my opinion of course, and doesn't necessarily reflect anyone elses.
