I got parts on the way..

Any ideas what I'm doing? (The peltiers will all fit in the footprint of one heatsink.) The other thing is a blower.

Close... more of a case air conditioner. Sealed box. PSU removed. Might work, might not.

The PSU will be mover out of the box and mounted to the back of the case. This is going to be mounted on a piece of plexiglass that will cover the hole where the PSU was. I'm trying to find thermal switches of some kind. I want the pelts to fire up in pairs at set temperatures. It would be nice if I could make the blower's output proportionate to the temperature also. I already intend to put temp sensors on each heatsink. (Digidoc 5)

I just hope these heatsinks can dissipate the heat of 6 pelts. They are 40watt pelts, but still... that'll be 240 watts with them all powered. I'm thinking I will have to put an AT PSU on the back as well.

At this point, I am leaning towards an IW-Q500, but if anyone knows of a less expensive case of similar quality, Please let me know.

The intake of the inside blower will be ducted to the oposite end of the case to make sure the air is circulated well.

It will be a week before the stuff gets here.. Then there's a couple days of "I am incredibly lazy" time. Tack on actual build time.. we're lookin act at least two weeks.

Turns out the blowers were a lot smaller than I expected... Not adequate. I am waiting for 4 60mm 12v fans, grills, and misc parts.

I am using a simple plastic prodject box to enclose the inside heatsink, so I can duct the intake to the front of the case. The Pelts are most likely going to be powered by a pair of SUN sparc 1 Power supplies.

Pics as soon as it is assembled on the plexti, nd more once it i actually in a case.

I got 20 ft of split loom tubing for wire management. (10ft of 3/8", and 10 ft. of 5/8"... I know I don't need more than a foot or so of each, but it i nice to have lots of that tubing lying around.)

I am considdering top mounting the cooler, as it would be a shame to have it hidden behind the machine.

Did you get those parts from ebay? They look very familiar. Please tell your results, I was thinking of something to that effect but just a peliter cooled massive heatsink in 2x 5in bays with a fan blowing in. To bad I cracked my petier I had lying around.

This is what it is looking like so far. The cold side is the boxed side. I am only using 4 peltiers. The heatsinks didn't seem adequate for all six. I will just order another set of them, and go with two units. It does blow cold air. I haven't mounted the hot side fans yet, so I tested it with the hot sink sitting in a bowl of water.

I am useing a 200watt or so AT power supply with a fan plugged into the 5v. (You have to have load on the 5v, or the 12v will be 9 or so.)

Mostly for looks, I will be using a pair of SUN sparc II PSU's when it is installed. I'm still deciding wether to modify a case, or just build one out of plexigless. Considdering the modifications I would have to make to a normal case, I am leaning the way of the plexi.

If it goes plexi, I will be using HVD SCSI, with no internal drives. I will have to use a second SCSI card for the CD drive, which would be narrow single ended, unless I go with a plextor drive. Regardless, the plextor drives are still single ended SCSI, and won't work on a differential SCSI card. (Differential SCSI can use obscenely long cables.) The only thing in the box would be the motherboard, and the AGP/PCI cards.

Basically, If I can motivate myself to do it all, I want this machine to be in three pieces. Power, mobo, and drives. The drives can survive with fans, as can the PSU's.

I never can seem to go to the hardware store without building something. While I was a Lowes getting some 4-40 bolts for the cooler, I saw this piece of wood, and imediately started metally gutting my two existing keyboard drawers. After a lot of measureing, and a couple screw-ups, I have a nice 48" wide drawer on my makeshft desk. One drawer was on drawer slides, the other was center-supported with a height adjustable arm. Together, they hold this pine pannel rather well. I need to stain it black to match the desk, but I probably won't get around to it for a while.

SWEET, someday I have to put up the money for a dremel. I always want to build stuff but don't have the supplies. That has to be the coolest desk. BTW, are those 2 mac classics I see there?

They used to be.

The white one is a Mac Color Classic with a 6500/225 logicboard in it.

The Black one is a Mac Color Classic with a PC in it. (Currently a PIII 800eb w/ 256meg, 25gig, 24x CD.)

The desk is just a pair of filling cabinets with a hollow core door laid across them.
