wiring a laptop screen to a regular monitor connector

Does anyone think it could be possible to wire a laptop LCD screen run on a computer like a regular monitor? That would very useful it can be succesfully done. I figure if you get the pinout of a regular monitor and some how make the LCD screen have those wires. Just a thought, has it been done? Some day I want to try and build a nes pc (pc in a NES system), and I thought if I could do a laptop screen hookup that would be very awsome.

so basically, is it possible?

Oh yea, I have DVI output too.

I doubt it, most laptops probabally use a proprietory system for their lcd displays.
If you've got a busted laptop with a display going spare though you don't have anything to loose as long as you don't go shorting your vid card out.

Well, it would be very hard, but I want to know if there is anyone that knows of it being done. Maybe with the pinouts it could be possible. I don't know if the dvi port is truley digital output and if that would be able to connect to a LCD. The thing that sucks is nearly every laptop is different so it would be nearly impossible to find plans on making this.

I have a 10.5" LCD screen here that I had planned to do just that with. I was going to make a server in a full height 5¼, and mount the LCD to the side of the box. The server would be a low end SBC. I was also considdering stuffing the insides of a router in that space with it.

Anyone know where I can get an LCD small enough for the front of a full height 5¼? (3.25'x5.75")

I, in no way, have the cash for this right now, so don't expect anything for MONTHS...

I ripped appart a ancient laptop to have a look and ended up with a screen and hundreeds of cables well about 26 or so i decided to leve that idea but it is still lying aound some were if n e one wants it

I heard the companies won't sell you a controller. That's what I've been hearing, someone asked a few companies and they don't sell them.

I have an old Compaq LTE 5300 Laptop, I wanted to mount the screen on the side of comp to display stats for stuff like, temps, winamp, and other things, is there any way of wiring it like a smaller LCD or would i need to wire thru my vid card and use it like a second monitor. ]: )
I have a TNT2 32meg pci card and also a viper330 agp vid card.

There are monochrome LCD kits out there that connect to a serial port. How to feed it the data you want it to display, I do not know.
