The Rubycon ZL family are supposed to be quite good: they are apparently used by a number of audio enthusiasts to help filter switching noise in audio amps. I would think they would work just fine.

I have used Rubycon caps quite often in the past. Very good success. We actually used them in a couple of designs at Telex when I worked there.

I have no update on the attempted fix yet on this but i was able to track down the official Support Group for these monitors. In the bankruptcy agreement from SOYO, HoneyWell is supposed to support this brand for 7 years after May 2009. I just received this e-mail when I contacted them for support.
Quote:
Thank you for contacting Honeywell.

We shall be happy to assist you. Please contact ESI at 323-328-1674 for assistance for the Soyo Monitor.

Honeywell ECC Customer Care
Did not call them yet but i wanted to share the info i have found so far.

Alrighty!

Caps came in the mail today so I got all the stuff out I needed then I realized something, the new caps are taller than the original ones...But I thought to my self, Gizmo said they were a good replacement so I went with my gut feeling and put them on anyway, hope they still work.

Being this was going to be my first solder job on a piece of electronics I was a bit nervous but after all was said and done I was pretty proud of myself. I haven't put the whole monitor back together yet but I wanted to post pics of my work so far. Update to come.

SWEET! It worked like a charm!

Before I put the whole thing back together I wanted to make sure that this was going to work. Well, lets just say a picture on a once busted LCD monitor is worth a thousand words.

It is held together by clips on the inside. You'll have to look closely at the seams and you'll see small spots where the clips are. You'll need to use a flat head screwdriver to release the clips. IIRC it was very difficult to get them to release and it also felt like I was going to break it but they eventually came loose. After separating the case I noticed that I broke a few clips but it didn't effect the monitor after I put it back together.

Almost a year later the monitor I fixed still works great!

A friend came to me just before I had fixed the monitor and told me that his Samsung TV was having similar issues and found online that Samsung had skimped out on quality caps and the model he had was plagued with bulging and leaking caps.

This past weekend he called me up and said he couldn't stand the problems the TV was giving him so he took the TV apart and brought the motherboard? to me to fix it for him. This time, since I know what I'm doing now I'm very proud of my work.

Here are the pics...the before is pretty bad but you can still see how bad the caps were.

Repair time again!

This time its for my Wifes grandmothers monitor, an LG Flatron L226WTQ.

Similar symptoms to the TV I repaired a few post above. I was able to open up the monitor quite easily this time and I found what I was hoping to find...

Bulging Caps!

Just have to order the new ones and she'll be good to go.

Gizmo, if I could get you to help me out a little, I would be very happy.

I made my way over to Digi-Key and searched for the cap I need but there were so many choices I'm not sure which is the best one to get. Could you point me in the right direction kind sir?
