yes, that's exactly what they're trying to do.

i wanna see a 512kb cache tualatin VS athlon xp next i'll start on the benches as soon as i get the heatsink on the PC tomorrow

u wanna also go for an "all out" performance comparison, as in overclocked as high as possible? unless u have hit maximum for the chip already? as well as the similar clock speed comparison

I figure Sisoft will be the ultimate judge.

I'm not going to remove the IHS right now. I know how, but the performance gains may not be there and there's a risk of damaging the core under the weight of the Pal heatsink.

**I should note that the only reason I would remove the IHS is to increase the speed/cooling... the tualatin's current setup isn't that great, aparently there's a rubbery compound used between the IHS and core that isn't very effective... he IHS is only there to protect the fragile core but seems to hinder the performance gains past 1500mhz.**

hmmmmmmmmmm you could do what AMD did, rather than a shim have 4 neoprene pads to help support the heatsink? that would protect it from crushing while installing the sink. or just take it off, and use AS epoxy to put the IHS back on should be better than this rubbery stuff you mentioned, only it would be permanent.

a 300 mhz overclock is pretty good though anyway! dont wreck it because i wanna see how far you can push it!

My thoughts exactly. CPU at potentially 100mhz more or no cpu because I screwed up. Easy math for me...

well, if my motherboard is any indication, they plan on making 1.53ghz chips . Problem is, they're all the same the same type cores, so they will be the best of this batch that would run at the lower voltages, but probably will hit the same ceilings as the current chips are.

sorry it took so long! havent got screenies, dunno how to do em so i wrote em down! all sisoft sandra benchmarks.

CPU : Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53Ghz)

CPU benchmark
ALU 4214 MIPS
FPU 2111 MFLOPS

Multimedia CPU benchmark:
Integer SSE 8486 IT/S
Floating Point 9765 IT/S

memory benches are not really worth posting, suffice to say its higher than the tualatin!

So it looks like AMD is on par with the Tullie . Well, memory's the issue but I dunno I've even pushed the 400+MB/s I have now, so that's not a major concern for me at the moment.

I am really smiling because my 1.50 Tualatin is almost neck and neck with AMD's latest and greatest.

I found a neat feature.

I have my chip running at 1414 right now. I have a feature that will add +33mhz to my bus, and it actually bumps my memory scores by about 10% (even with the memory running at 151mhz cas3 !).

i got a 1ghz tualatin celery, havent played with overclocking it, since my dad doesnt want me to wreck his PC.... anyway, the memory is generic stuff, i had problems when i briefly set it to 110 FSB!

maybe ill aquire some good RAM and crank it up one day.....
