| Is my PIV running too hot? I'm running a 1.8A @ 2.4GHz (100MHz > 133MHz FSB). CPU temp under load with SETI@Home CLI ranges from 45'C to 51'C depending on room temp. This is with kinda crappy case cooling: 1x 27cfm fan in the bottom front of my tower case, partially blocked form ventilating the CPU area of the case by a Voodoo 5; 1x 27cfm exhaust fan next to the mobo i/o shield at the back of the case. Can I take the CPU to 2.63/2.64GHz (146MHz FSB)?

| i installed my 1.6A replaceing the 2.66B for memory oc'ing purposes. 1.6A @ 2.56/ AVC Sunflower HSF room temp: 23c-28c under load: 48c- 55c idle: 31c-36c

| Your temps are fine. CPU throttling doesn't start to occur until around 70C or so. Until you start closing on 70C, everything should be cool.

| In another thread, I was told that Winbond Hardware Doctor might actually be giving false value because (supposedly) Abit mobos report temps 5-15'C too high. I could actually be getting anywhere from 47 to 35'C.

| Well, the one good thing about Intel is that you get a warning before your CPU dies a nasty thermal death. It starts throttling. If you simple tasks taking EXTREMELY long amounts of time, you know you're overheating. Actually, the CPU will NOT die a thermal death. It will throttle and cool down way before critical temps are reached. Unlike AMD which will just burn to a crisp. Regardless, even 46C is way below 70C so I'd say you're pretty safe.

| Yours runs about the same temp as mine with good case ventilation and watercooling. 1.6A @ 2.4 1.65V . Temps are fairly subjective and seem to be measured differently from one manufacturer to another. Like MD said your chip will let you know if it is getting too hot.
