Lightbulb My Intel P4 is 54 degrees celsius, help

I was wanting to know what kind of thermal coolers are good out there so i can bring down the temperature for my socket 478 p4. I was thinking of getting a thermaltake volcano. if you should know of any other better ones than thermaltake, let me know.

Is it 54C idle?
38C for a case temp is rather high - don't you have any case cooling fans? As it is the air in the case that cools the heatsink on the CPU, it is important to have as cool a case as possible. My CPU goes up 8-9 degrees C when I shut down my case fans...

I recommend that you use good thermal compound (Only a paper thin layer on the CPU core). As for P4 air coolers, the Thermaltake Volcano 7+ is pretty good. It is probably a good idea to check this page from O/C about P4 coolers...

Hello pcmasterx Welcome to AOA. Allan is of course correct, you need to think system cooling here. You need a good cooler for your CPU and the ones funnyperson1
has indicated will do fine but if your case temps are more that 3 degrees above your room temp think about case cooling as well.

Good Luck!

those STOCK intel coolers are pretty good when you have proper airflow in your case, what fans and where do you have them, and which way (blowing in/out) are they?
