Duallie Pentium Pros
How important is getting the stepping numbers the same on a dual-Pentium Pro rig?

it shouldnt matter. So long as they are same speed and same core voltage there shouldnt be a problem.

I was told it was only the newer CPUs like PIIIs that aren't that picky, but PPros are quite picky about stepping numbers

i have heard both...... but NEVER had a problem using 2 COMPLETLY different steeping in a dual rig~

P-Pro's are long in the tooth. Duplicating the stepping may be important. Hope someone who know's will answer your question. The CPU's are inexpensive nowadays, as long as they don't have bigger than 1Mb L2 caches.

Have a look at www.centrix-intl.com . They used to carry Intel P Pro dual SMP Server mainboards, and they were inexpensive. One hassle may be that they used to point out that VRM Modules(for each processor) were NOT included with most of their P-Pro Server boards. They offered VRM Modules for some of the boards they sold, for ~$24.

It's been a while since I visited Centrix-Intl. I bought two orders from them, good service, no BS.

More than 1MB L2 cache?! According to intel and sandpile.org the Pentium Pro never had more than 1MB cache.

Weyell hush my mouth! I must be confusing Xeon's with P Pro's.

Is this proposed SMP P Pro machine to be an antique in working condition? Their performance was the bombe many moon's ago. Nowadays... not so much.

I looked around a couple of computer fairs but they didn't have 1MB L" cache PPros or dual-PPro mobos.
