"Beat me Daddy, eight to the bar." WTH did that one come from?

When I'm Sixty Four. Holy moly, it might happen to me if I last that long. Lest one feels immune to such superannuation, the chorus of this old Beatles tune contains "you'll be older too." Think of the alternative.

"Conditional Discharge," by Long John Baldry. Weyell, it's said that one shouldn't speak ill of the dead, so I won't.

We get a few inches of rain, so what happens? Most of the rivers are above flood stage. WTH? Why isn't denuding the hillsides mentioned as a probable cause? Oh dear, wouldn't want to offend The Developers. Isn't our mayor one of those wonderful people who bring benefits to all? Developer, ooh worship. Stinkin' mofo bahstage creeps!

Perusing my posts, one could come to the conclusion that I'm anti-business. Perish that thought! We need businesses for many reasons, all of them good. Yet when business literally gets away with premeditated murder, my anti-flag gets flapping. Viz, Playtex International, dba Ballpark Franks. We all know that hot dogs are made from dodgy ingredients, yet they're not supposed to kill or permanently sicken those that consume them. Playtex was assessed a $40000 fine per head fine. Gimme a freakin' break!

It happened in a Chicago plant of theirs, IIRC. Very nasty business, very bad "let them eat poison" attitude that sickened/killed roughly 100 consumers. It would be nice if large corp's stopped getting away with murder.

Ol' "Silent Cal" Coolidge. Business may have changed since he strutted around the WH. Maybe not, hearts of anthracite were not unknown then.

Once we manage to close the book on Iraq, we can get the troops home and start getting rid of some of the extra US currency floating around. Obama just won an election, and lost a high stakes game of hot potato.

This was the Bush plan. to leave us to broke to enact social legislation. If we don't go after the rich (who stole our money) We will be to broke to do squat...

So...how dumb are we when our kids educations are at stake...how bold will be in the face of servitude?

Time to wake up or walk in chains....imho

At the moment, if you make 30K/year, you are in the 28% tax bracket. If you make 300K/year, you are also in the 28% tax bracket. I don't care if my taxes go up. I really don't mind paying taxes provided it's used properly. I just want to see it start scaling a little more.

One thing we keep hearing about is health care. Boo-hoo a bazillion americans don't have health care. GOOD. If they don't have it, they most likely don't WORK for it. I work, I have health care. Go get a job, imo. I want to see welfare reduced to "disability". If you are physically able to work, and you don't, NO CHECK FOR JOO! I could see welfare providing supplemental income for individuals in poverty. Notice I didn't say "families". If mommy doesn't have the sense to avoid getting pregnant, we should not give her a cookie for being stupid. I could support myself working at Mcdonnals if I had to. I have trouble believing that social parasites need to be given more than that. I think we need to take better care of our elderly. Social Security is a joke. i look at what they take out, and if it's being grown in anything but a mayonaise jar burried in the back yard of the white house, it should be paying our seniors a lot more than it does. The government needs to pick up the check for fixing the broken system we have now, and move to a social security personal account. Sort of a forced 401k. (Which I think should be mandatory also, btw.)

Unfortunately, Barrok supports good and bad changes. We will see the bad before we see the good. I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.

Edit: That should get the hate mail rolling in.

Edit: Unemployment is about 15% where I am, but trust me, I could have 3 jobs by monday if I wanted them. A big part of the problem is that people feel they are too good for a job. I don't have any amazing skill set that would get me a job. I am a very talented machinist, but that's the job I have. Actually, that's not true. I'm an average machinist, who never breaks anything. Considering I have 3 months pay worth of tooling in a machine at any given time, companies like me. I could walk right into a lot of skilled trades on pure BS, and pull it off. I'm not too proud to take a job at Walmart or Mcdonalds, if food and shelter hung in the balance, though.

I'd feel better if the 300k/yr person paid 40% and the 30k/yr person paid 3%. Perhaps 2% is more fair. Contrary to Republican and some idiotic other's misunderstanding, Social Security is just fine, it needs no privatization in order to "save" it. It's OK until 2030 or thereabouts, just the way it is.

Mandatory 401k's aren't the greatest idea, IMHO. Many people's 401k accounts have lost one half and more of their value because of the Stock Market's crash.
