Why, thank you Dan. Maybe I'm biased in favor of the underdog, but I like the idea of an AMD processor a lot. Mebbe they'll get themselves together by the time I need to buy a new CPU?

That would be nice, unfortunately they're losing the muscle race somewhat glaringly. Oh for the glory days(and two year lead over Intel)of the Athlon!

Even if we hold our collective breath it will require a near miracle for AMD to get ahead of Intel once again. Sigh.

She may just need to find a market suited to AMD's talents...

A person on our board gave an AMD CPU/GPU combo a bad review. He posted that leaning on the GPU portion made for slowing of the CPU half, and vice versa. Not the endorsement I was hoping for.

Plus you can't install a video card on this kind of rig, afaik. Hopefully it would help the all in one processor along.

I don't really know, maybe I misunderstand. I got the impression that an AMD combo GPU/CPU cored rig couldn't accept a discreet Vidcard.

Can you take a picture George.. I've learned that If I get enough information posted someone will help!! ":O}

Do you have A PCIe slot? If you do I'd guess that you almost certainly can run a Video card. You want a good match up to your CPU and mother board.

Never does to have any part too much better than the rest you just end up wasting a lot of it's excellence.

I should have made it clear that I was relying on a product "review" by one of our Members. AMD makes a new kind of proc that combines GPU/CPU in one hunk of silicon. Our Member said that though it's a great concept, it doesn't work well in real life because leaning hard on either the GPU or CPU function reduces the ability of its other half to function well. Hope this clears up any confusion.
He also gave the strong impression that a mobo for this wunnerful CPU/GPU combo won't accept a Vidcard.

Mebbe AMD was trying to outdo Intel in that Intel's built-in Vidcard(on/in the mobo that hosts the Intel processor) is kinda lame?

Intel does it's video on the CPU chip. Not aware of how well they did with it, never used this capibilty myself.

AMD or Intel it doesn't matter as long as you run windows. You go buy yourself a gadget and if it requires any drivers you can use it. On the other hand if you are "blessed" with a free OS you have to ask and ask and ask for a device with drivers for that OS, not like the salesman will have a laugh

Actually Chris there isn't a single piece of hardware in my computer, that I can honestly think of, that Mint 13 does not properly identify and fully use.

There are a ton of joysticks, keyboards and mice that ID themselves as Linux capable.

My Logitech illuminated keyboard uses every one of my specialty keys and lets me assign them. I use a Kingston Track ball, it works fine, almost any USB device will. Patti's new Printer was instantly recognized.

Device drivers are not the bane of Linux users if they make intelligent purchases.

But Chris that was yesturday... and not altogether true back then. All of Patti's phones, her digital camera (at lest 4 years old) have ALWAYS worked in Linux.

I have no need of a Web cam, but if it's USB, I would having little trouble finding one that would work for me.

You see Chris, I don't and most people don't need our OS to do EVERYTHING an OS can do. Just whay I want it to do. When it doesn't, I try a new Destro...

When MS doesn't, Poor Chris is left in tears, just tears...":O}
