Hoo boy, those unlucky guests of the state. Many of them have been cleared of all charges, years ago. But we simply don't understand how to let go.

"They will never forgive you for what they have done to you."

We have tortured and abused them for years and years without just cause of any kind...how do we dare to give them their freedom now?

We are cowards unable to face just retribution or admit our crimes against the innocent...

We cannot bring ourselves to believe in their forgiveness.... a forgiveness we are not capable of showing...

Had we the guts needed to hold our home grown war criminals responsible for their outrages against humanity...

...we would be in a better place today. The Phony War on Terror becomes more ludicrous and those chickens are coming home to roost. If only the hen house existed in the real high rent districts.

If only we had a good solution for the lunacy that results in the bombing at the last Boston Marathon (purely an example, one among many). It's easy to preach the high road, but how do we protect against those who pursue any road to achieve anything they happen to consider glorious (or merely getting even)? What about the rights of those who are maimed and slaughtered (and the resultant damaged they leave behind)?

I would not relish the responsibility for protecting the general populace in any country from unbridled extremism, but that is what most every country's leaders have to try to cope with. It's easy to sit back and criticize the efforts of others to find solutions (however imperfect). The more high profile they are, the more fun to criticize, however, it's another thing to step up to the plate ourselves and try to make a difference.

These are not new things or new problems in human history...Nor is the rich selling us a bill of goods to subdue our just reprisals... As Pogo once said "we have seen the enemy and they are us."

What our government is doing now is a far greater danger to my freedom and security than the handful of terrorist we have created by our mass rape of the middle east for oil profits.

The very rich control all our government does and the very rich are really quite insane... Just my personal point of view...

They have to monitor this forums but won't allow back ground checks for machine guns? Quite insane and very evil.

Forty years ago I noticed that our finest boys in blue were adopting military uniforms, in black instead of green. I said to myself: only good can come of this!
Confusing the duties of the military and police is always a great idea. Abuse and gun down the people of the homeland(gotta love that traditional American word)and attempt to police foreigners. How has this policy worked out?

The manias required to hold on to money and power while insisting upon more of both aren't beneficial to the mental well being of those possessed by them. They insist that their underlings duplicate their madness.

Everyman can be in the pocket it chooses, come to think of it. Or maybe no pocket at all!

I forgot that the northern most 100 miles of California climbing out of the Central Valley is in the mountains. The adiabatic lapse rate helps but 100+F is too danged hot for Seattleites. It's good to be home!

Welcome back (lots of heights in Northern California -- fond memories from a much earlier trip by VW bus). More importantly, President Mohamed Morsy is on the edge of being thrown out by the Egyptian military, maybe there can yet be an alternative to the Muslim Brotherhood in what should be a great civilization.

Ah yes, days long gone in my primer gray vw microbus. With double doors on both sides, for cooler camping. Cruising along the coast of northern California with my blonde gf of yesteryear. Sigh.

"Mendocino" by Doug Sahm. The Texas Tornadoes, talk about a bunch of disgruntled musicians. I can't blame them, they deserve more fame than they've garnered, but it makes for a bad stage presence.

Durned good question! I imagine we're somewhat biased in the credit we are only too happy to give ourselves. My brother had the queen's Royal Wave down to a T. Makes me laugh to remember.
