Is that board from a pre-builts system as I can find very little informtation on it, I think it's based on the SiS650 chipset which has a max bus speed of 533mhz and I only think supports northwood cpu's

I can find 11 motherboards which support S478 though my suppliers, if you want, give me some idea of what you are after, cheap, expensive, PCI-E, AGP etc i will try and pick one out for you (from ASUS).

But the motherboard you mentioned below, I cant find, so it is either out of a complete system, or it is discontinued which means it is more likely Northwood based, and wont be compatible with Prescott

And the Zalman HSF, i have looked up and it looks like it has a universal/changable base so will work with S478, S775, S754, S939 and S940.

Check this link for full details:

I did some research and found the the 266 in Asus P4s266-VX means that it supports ddr 266, which strongly suggests if not confirms that his board only supports 533 fsb, or no presscott support. So just buy him a northwood.

You could get him a 2.8A.

I read it's a mobo made for Sony notebooks..am I wrong here Skiracing108?
Anyway it says it supports only 133 fsb...so you're stuck with a CPU with a 533 FSB my friend.

Besides some limitations, I would stick with a northwood core for these reasons:

1) They produce much less heat than Prescott
2) Overclock much higher and more stable
3) Also less power consuming

The fastest you are willing to pay for, with it being a sony desktop with a max of a 533mhz fsb I doubt it has much in the way of overclocking so what ever stock speed it is will have to do, I'd check what the latest bios update for it offers as well, to see if the board supports hyper threading
