Question How to O/C P4 1.7Ghz

I'm new to the Forum, so :

Hello all!

I'm pretty computer-savvy, but I am new to the whole overclocking scene. Sooo.... I was wondering if someone could talk me through how to overclock my P4, just to get some experience of the thing before moving onto my AMD system

TIA.

If it is a northwood core, all you have to to is start upping the FSB. By default is should be 100 or 133.

However, I doubt it is. Most likely, it is an older core, and I believe they topped out at 1.8-2.0ghz, so you may not get anything out of it.

Well, if it's that old I doubt it's really going to make much of a difference anyways. And why would you overclock your internet computer? lol. Recreation?

none of us mean to bash anything but a 1.7ghz P4 is just too slow to begin with. I remember an old P3 copper(which I still think is awesome) 933mhz processor whoops a P4 Willimatte core 1.5ghz, not just a whoop but a big.... whoopie doopie(with a little bit of exaggeration).

what they are saying is that your setup may not give you much of overclock at all and will hardly notice any performance improvement.. unless you get a nice overclocking board and tweak the mem setting a bit..

Well, all that is true for sure. But the real question is..wth are you doing overclocking an internet comp with integrated graphics. And, I think what we're just trying to say is it isn't worth all the trouble to o/c that comp. Sorry for being so frank, no offense intended.

Hey Guys!

Sorry for taking a while to reply, I've been at the World Youth Day in Cologne.

No offense taken! Thanks for your advice! I was just going to try to overclock it so that if I messed up it wouldn't be quite so expensive to replace....

Oh well..!

Zee.
