P4 LGA775 3.2 Running Temps??

I recently added a Koolance liquid cooling system to my CPU to replace the stock HS and Fan. I learned that the temperature sensor included is nowhere near accurate. Logging into the bios setup shows the CPU running at between 50-53C idle.....is this normal?? Seems a bit high to me. I am certain the cooling system was installed correctly, I am wondering if this is adequate? Any thought????

Motherboard temps are frequently inaccurate. You could use a direct die thermal pad (between the core and the block) but then again its not the best idea. Try updating your BIOS. But yes, it is a possibility that your Block wasnt mounted correctly.

I realize its a Prescott, but there's no way your going to run 50C idle with correctly mounted hardware.

A little more info about your system would be nice. I have to wonder, did you use AS-5 or any thermal compound? That seems terribly high for any form of cooler at stock speeds. Is your processor a DO, EO, or a NO?

I've got a D0, and it is currently under load at 57c. Not liquid, but I'm using an SLK 948 w/ 9cm fan running at 4000rpm.... My guess is it is about as good as low end water.

Idle seems high, but the temp is safe. The best thing to do is to keep an eye on temp and put the CPU under load... if the temp shoots up like crazy, then reinstall the block... otherwize, enjoy your system.

EDIT: BTW... Welcome to AOA.

I used the thermal paste that came with the cooling system, by the way it was a Koolance ICM510 internal radiator cooling system. The temps seemed high to me so I did a bit more research. I removed the cooling block and cleaned off the processor before re-applying the thermal paste, seemed to be a big help. Temps are now 40-46 idle and only 53c under full load. The cooling system is one of the lower end from Koolance, my roommate is running their top-of-the line product and his CPU (AMD64) runs at 27C.....maybe I should have spent the extra cash. I appreciate the feredback and any other deas are always welcome. Thanks again.

Temps....

Thanks for the imput, and the hospitality. This is my first system build, and thus far I'm very impressed, system runs great (I would still like lower temps...) but after all it is a prescott! Anyone have any suggestions on a case that might help me get these temps a little lower? like I said I'm running an internal radiator, and there isn't much room inside standard atx case right now. I think if I get a slightly larger case with better airflow my temps would be much lower, and a little AS5 wouldn't hurt either. Any Ideas out there?

Still Burnin'

Well, I had a bit of hard drive trouble.... or so to say the thing **** the bed. I replaced with a brand new matrxot 200gb and did the whole reinstall, drivers, windows, more drivers, more drivers......etc, but my temps are still freaking me out a little. The cpu averages about 43-46 idle and i've seen it up to almost 65 at full boar. Any ideas as to why this thing won't cool off. I am afraid my cooling lines aren't big enough and my radiator not quite efficient enough. Can anyone lead me in the right direction, or at least let me know i'm not going to have to replace the processor next week because I burned it out.

yea low 40's is about right for stock clocking...if ur gonna oc ur gonna want some ac5 and a better heatsink/fan though 65 load is gettin kinda warm

edit: ur liquid cooled!! u should be a LOT colder then that then, you should never hit 65 under load not overclocked ever ever!!!

Try leaving the side panel off. Either the air flow over the radiator is not enough, or you are not getting enough waterflow.

Is idle still coming down low for you? or is it always hot?

Well you could always use my solution to the prescott heat issue Right now as I type I am running 4305mhz with mine and my cpu temp is 18C!! running 1.46 Volts to the processor at the moment.

Here is a pic of my Prescott running at 4400mhz during the hyperthreading portion of PCmark04 heated alll the way up to 25C!

I run a 6002-775 Swiftech waterblock. Heater core radiator 76 GM fullsize car. And a eheim pump. Prescotts are easy to cool down if you attack the problems from the right angles. I need only open my slider and a little wider to get cooler. the other night I ran PCmarko4 and hit a new record high for me. I was running at 4690mhz! My processor was idling at 8C and benched at 16C! It was -2C out and I cracked the sliding glass door about 1 inch That squirrel cage fan picked up all that cold air and rammed it right through my radiator at 265cfm. My case temp was was 8C My main board was at 12C. But my speed was cooking!!
