CPU and mobo question

Would this be a good CPU, I don't want to mess with Conroe right now:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...065&CatId=2219

And, would this be a good SLI mobo:

The only issue with this processor is that they are said to run hot. If you want to OC it, the stock heatsink and fan unit is probably not good enough.
I don't know if the Nvidia chipset for the Intel platform was completely fixed or not. There were problems with it when it was new.

The Nvidia chipset for Intel is still a bit iffy with stability and BIOS issues but i haven't tested one in ages though, things may have changed. Anyone else got an opinion?

From what I read in CPU magazine, they said they have worked to bugs out with this revision of the board. Temps on the CPU aren't problem, I can retro-fit my current HSF to fit on socket 775, it's a Coolermaster Hyper 48, with a 92mm Vanrec Tornado. Yeah, it's loud, but damn it cools my Prescott very well.

Jhurdle

I'm running a Pentium D 950 on a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Quad Royal board w/2 Gig of OCZ 667 DDR2 and a pair of EVGA 7900GT's. The proc is OC'd to 3.8 & cooled with a Zalman CNPS9500. Temps run about 48 C under hard gaming, so cooling won't be a problem and framerates are in the 165 range. This system is very stable even with the overclock. I kinda' wish I'd waited for the new Conroe, but I'm very happy with the 950.

I'm sure you can go Conroe later on, there's no rush at the moment.

For CPU, id recommend the 915. It is much cheaper, about $140. Get a conroe compatible board, and you have a very good chance of overclocking FSB like crazy.

I don't like tigerdirect.

Well, I know Newegg.com is far better than Tigerdirect.com, but I have purchased quite a few thing from Tiger Direct, and have not had any problems. Plus, they have a warehouse just outside of Chicago, so I get my stuff in 1 day, sometimes less than 24 hours.

Anyway, basically when I upgrade I want an Asus mobo preferably an SLI board, which I know don't overclock very well. I don't want a Crossfire board, because I am not an Ati fan. I do want a Conroe ready board, but one that will handle a Pentium D also.

I guess my main question now is, how important do you guys think a SLI or Crossfire board will be in the future, compared to a board with only 1 PCI-E slot?

If you're not a gaming monster you probably can live without SLI or Crossfire.

I am, so that means SLI for me, too bad it will have to be a Nforce chipset.
