conroe 6600 what is it? Must be some sort of other CPU! Who else make CPU's other than AMD?

Even though ECS mainboards are manufactured by the PC Chips Group, I strongly suggest buying a different brand of m'board. Asrock and ECS come to mind, for good performance on a budget.

Your m'board is your computer. Confucious said: build not your computer upon a PC Chips mainboard. Honestly, you can look up the quote. It would be better to wait and save up enough money for a better mainboard, truly, it would. Just my 2 cents.

Uh cloasters. you better get some shut eye and sleep it off cuz it is messing with your vision... bonesaw is going to use the Asus P5W DH Deluxe 975X board as the base of his new system. No PC Chips of any kind will play a part in the assembly.

QSDT it is a good thing you found your way over here to the Intel Threads cuz AOA will probably soon just hit the DELETE button on the amd threads. I mean think about it.... Who Cares.... So start using your system for it's real intended purpose. (Door Stop) Get a nice new Intel Allendale/Conroe system and join us here where the water is warm the air fresh and clean and the drinks all nice and cool.... ahhhhhhh...

Keep us updated bonesaw.

To answer your, "What is it?" QSDT the Conroe 6600 is the reasonbly priced,
"Harbinger of amd's Doom" ......

so far i got a ocz psu coming with a zalman 9500. in about 3 weeks its the ram then a few weeks after that the motherboard and cpu. i tried to order the stuff in the order where i would get the cheapest price because the psu and ram prices are not going down as much as the cpu.

Intel is finally having it's moment on top and your throwing AMD in the bin....AMD has held the crown for far too long to dismiss it as if it were a VIA chip.

Hey. I don't think people just wrote Intel off to be second-rate dell dusters when AMD held the crown.

Intel's got the golden throne. For now. Let's leave it at that.

The Dark Side is far too powerful. It is a smart move to jump over to Intel. I used to be a former Intel fan boy. I remember the good'ol P2 and P3 days. I loved it when I clocked that P3 copper to 1.45ghz and used to break the 3dmark record, hehe! Intel will now on whoop ass, not just this time.

Hey that is why band wagons have no sides on them. People are free to jump all they want. Believe me it hurt for me to jump from Amiga to a pentium IBM based computer. I remember I felt literally sick. But it was time to move into the IBM based world like it or not. Since then I have only owned pentium based systems. My wife has a AMD system I retrieved from the garbage (Also literally) I love that story but it is a good computer based on the Athlon 2100. A new HDD and a 5900fx vid card and it has been great. I see where a FX-55 is under $200 now. Who would have thunk it? As much as they cost and as much as they were tearing up just a couple years ago. So who knows in 2 years who will be where. My fear is that there will be many many cores and that things will be so much faster than we can even really imagine right now and that OC'ing will become just something a small minority of computer users used to do. Could be great times ahead for overall performance but dark days ahead for us in the OC world. I suspect by the year 2020 if you try to OC your computer a unmanned aerial drone will hover over your home and vaporize the place and plant grass before it leaves. If you try to hack anything you will be hacked!!! There will be absolutely no place to run or hide. All because of a bandwagon?? Well I have no idea where all that came from but, there you have it.

WZ

A small secret here. Lots of cores are good, but it's a complete nightmare to produce code that scales across more than a couple of cores. One project that I'm aware of spent four years producing, simulating and testing their code to ensure synchronisation between threads when running on multiple cores. They still couldn't prevent deadlocks and other nasties between threads on different cores! How well will other applications manage this?
