To much fsb bus on those puppies will ruin there overclockability and intel knows it. They're going to have such low multiplier to reach the speeds we're getting atm out of the chips the fsb is just going to have to be insane.

The 6750 will have an 8x mult instead of a 10x mult so to reach say 3.73GHz like i have done instead of a 373fsb you will need a 466 MHz fsb!

Also waiting on penryn here to and its closer than you think. I'd go for 6 months away max

Hell yes! The 6400 can hold it's own with most video cards although with an 8800 or whatever, even the QX6700 bottlenecks it because it's got so much bandwidth!

Looking at those new releases, and considering it may be Q3 before i build my new rig, i think i might end up with an E6850! It's cheaper than the current E6600 pricing but no doubt that will drop to something like $180-200. Plus it's 3Ghz, 4Mb cache with a 1333 FSB. I can already smell some 4-4.5Ghz OC's!

There will have to be some nasty boards to get 455 FSB. I am not up to speed on Intel boards but I would imagine that the current boards will not reach that. Might be a simple Bios update. Or maybe a whole new setup. Very nice chips and prices though.

most i965, 975x and nforce 680i boards are good for at least 400 fsb (my now old! p5w-dh is good for 405MHz) considering it was originally designed to do 266MHz fsb its not doing badly.
This is with dual core cpus (nforce has issues with quad core which hurts its fsb to sub 350MHz)
some chipsets will do around the 450MHz ball park but thats if you get a good one, if you get a really good one you can squeeze 500MHz out of them if you super cool them.

Intel dont like you overclocking there chips to much, after all they want your money! by selling you a higher end chip they get more money.

Why buy an X6800 when you can get an E6300 and overclock it past X6800 speeds... for 1/4 of the price

Final versions of the Core 2 Duo's that were launched last year overclock worse than the previous 'engineering sample' stepping as all these pre-release chips were hitting nigh on 4GHz with not alot more than air cooling.

This is just a few more turns on the thumbscrew really, we shall have to see how well they overclock but i wouldnt be surprised if the 6850 did little better than the current 6600 (both have 9x mult).

There is a reason why these chips are so cheap and its not entirely because of AMD, it's making room for quad core chips (could even be penryn based)

1.82v on a conroe with only air cooling, surely thats some mistake! / overkill the stock vcore on these puppies is around the 1.35v depending on exact chip, i thought i was mad putting 1.6v through my chip, any more and it got rather toasty even with water cooling.

My board originally had a soft limit at 450mhz fsb but a bios update upped that to 500mhz after all the hardcore nutters used a windows app to get it there anyway.

though its either my chip or my board but more than 406fsb is no go, no matter how much i lower my multiplier (hit 404 with 10x, but 406 with 6-9x)

That is pretty sweet. I think my x2 3800 tops out around 300 or so....
