Overclocking a 1.6A on a Asus P4B

Hi guy's,

I'm running a locked intel 1.6A on a Asus P4B.
256mb pc 133 ram
Nvidia Gforce2 mx400 (64mb)
Creative pci 512
HP 9500 CRW
Netgear FA311
Maxtor 40gb 7200
Maxtor 20Gb 7200
IEEE 1394

Adjusting fsb to 110 is as high as I can go.
Pushing 111 fsb creates no post.
Voltage is set to auto.
I'm using the intel supplied heatsink w/pad
MB temp 39 C /102 F
CPU temp 52 C / 125 F (system running for 6 hrs)

On first boot and for three days I had cpu at 2133mhz
then no post. Since then the best is 1766mhz (@110 fsb)

Will changing cpu cooler allow higher O/C?
If so, recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,
rguilmette

The two steps you should take are 1) Buy a new and a better CPU HSF, because 52'C is pretty hot. 2) Bump up Core Voltage bit by bit to get stablility, but watch those temps.

Sorry can't give you any recomendations on a cooler, I never owned a P4.... Just wait until another member reads this post!

Like mentioned, you would want a better cooler.

I've read some very good things about the ThermalTake Volcano 7+ (Read what O/C has to say about it: http://www.overclockers.com/articles539/ )

The AVC Sun Flower wouldn't be a bad choice either.

Grab some Arctic Silver II as well, and apply a paper thin layer between the core and the heatsink. It should do you some good.

Try raising the voltage a bit as well, just a little at a time.

If none of this helps, let us know, and we will do our best to help you further.
