| Wolfdale gives Conroe a good pasting (45nm vs. 65nm) Intel's 45nm chips are not far away now, they were demo'd months ago at clock speeds of upto 3.33GHz and four sku's are now with motherboard makers for evaluation and bios tuning. Two dual cores and two quad cores. The fastest being a 3.33GHz XE Quad core. Some chips have landed in the hands of the people at hardspell.com and they decided to do a head to head with directly comparable conroe chip. They put a 2.33GHz wolfdale (dual core) up against a E6550 2.33GHz conroe (dual core). AMD fans close your browser now The results, the 45nm chip beat the 65nm chip by 5-10% on most tests,(it never lost a test) the biggest gap was in 1080p mpeg2 encoding (as expected as intel have ported the media caperbilities of netburst into the 'core' design) where it has a 115% lead. Gamers will rejoice as half life 2 saw a 31% boost, there was also a 16% boost in serious sam and 8% in f.e.a.r Thats quite an improvement for an already good chip, even sweeter the chips use 28% less power and run 10C+ cooler. It has been recently said if AMD release a 3GHz Phenom, intel will release a 4GHz wolfdale. Looks like the clock speed race is back except this time clock for clock intel have the lead so far... http://www.hardspell.com/english/doc...p?news_id=1161 Edit - what appears to be the original source ... http://www.hkepc.com/bbs/hwdb.php?ti...iew&rid=837360
