Asus P5N 32E-sli boot issues

hey guys.

ive asked this b4,and got it sorted, but of late my rig is again acting up.Its giving boot issues again.Last week i was struggling whole week getting it to boot. Its then that i realised it was a flaky Cmos battery,i bought a new Energiser 1,but it took 3 reboots to get it up and going.Last nite i was installing various games and just rebooting as per normal,pc rebooted but would not go through post,it just hanged there with a black screen,pc on,but nothing.I did a forced shutdown by holding power button. When i powered it back up,it booted and posted first time.I tried about 4 restarts from Windows, and everytime the same thing happened.Im running the latest 1205 bios, and running at stock speeds.I ran Vista a few weeks ago,but kept getting BSOD`s while running Graw, and only Graw caused this,no other games or apps, but the bsod pointed to my X1900XT,but ive not had that since running XP Pro again, should i be concerned about these issues as some sort of hardware failure about to happen.

Do you have another PSU to test with. This is usually a good place to start.

If not, unplug everything except the main HDD and fans. See if it will reboot every time with the other hardware unplugged.

thanks Samuknow.
i somehow do suspect my psu as well,as my pc is pretty loaded,as my 12v+ rails are always below 12v,whether idling or stressed, and my 5 volt rail, its always 4.90.i dunno if this is normal or not,i dont know anyone with a better psu than this.I was considering buying a Coolermaster Green power 600 watt psu,as im sure it would be more stable than this Huntkey.

cheers and thanks.

Well you kninda pointed out a few other posibilites in your post also. 1st it sounds like you need to remove and then reinstall your vic card. you have been reaching in your case to replace the CMOS battery believe it or not just a bump of the card even though it screwed into the slot can still loosen it up enough to cause problems. 2nd, when you got that bsod that pointed at your vid card did you take the time to change drivers?
If not you should newer older I don't care but change that one.
As for your psu If you never get near 12 or 5 you no doubt could stand some improvement. Also you should know that running the latest bios is no guarentee of anything with a motherboard. The correct bios is the one that works for YOUR board.
My P5N-E SLI board is running on bios 401. There have been 7 releases since this one. For my set up I need no other bios
My P5WDH is on bios 2004 there have been at least 3 maybe 4 releases since. For my set up I need no newer bios'. In the case of the P5WDH I tested all newer bios options and they were all much weaker than the 2004 bios. I then had to take the time to flash back to the older more reliable bios.
I encourage no one to install a new bios simply cuz it is the latest cuz that may mean nothing to your system. As a matter of fact I think I would be reading up your board over at XS and try to find a consnsus on which bios may be best for older chips like yours. The board you have is really a very good board so work it out. What kind of temps are you seeing from you processor and your vid card? These can also be a factor in all this.

Good luck on this.

Thanks Weldzilla.

Last nite i again had a nightmare getting this mb to boot, could you maybe recommend what voltages i should run for the setup i have.
I have replaced the x1900xt with an Asus 8800gts 320M,and the psu with a Coolermaster Igreen 600watt eps 2.91.Also,i now see ,when it does boot, that i get a 2nd post screen, dont know wot that is,but its there on every reboot.

thanks in advance guys.

hey guys.

After months of boot issues, when pc boots up and post, then it doesnt,i think i finally got the culprit, faulty kb.i replaced it,and my pc boots first time everytime,no lock ups,no reboots, very stable, ran about 4hrs of benching various 3d mark apps.i even purposefully either rebooted or shutdown my rig as much as i could, just to make sure it was the kb,and it seems to be the case.Thank you guys, for all the info and time time to help.
AOA rocks.

Wow, nice bit of solving there then! Who would have thought it was the kb?
