Help with Asus P5B & PSU

Quick question, I have an Intel core 2 duo and an Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard powered by an OCZ Modstream 780w power supply.

The power supply comes with 2 x 4 pin EATX12v power connectors. One says CPU 1 the other says CPU 2. I plug one of those connectors to my board while the other socket is covered up.

What I want to know is am I suppose to plug in both connectors to my motherboard? I assumed that because it is covered I don’t have to use it. But because I am using a duel core processor, should I plug it in?

Sorry if this is a really silly question but I would rather ask it than to plug in the other connector and probably fry my CPU in the process.

Pull the cover and plug both in. It never hurts to supply power to all possible locations..

The Asus P5B mobo only has one socket for the ATX12V connector so far as I know. The second connector on the OCZ PSU is provided for (I believe) certain dual- or quad-socket server-class mobos. It also doubles as a PCIe power connection, I think.

The P5B has an EPS12v connection. They ship with a plastic cover over the second set of 4 pins in the connector. Asus says it was to stop people from plugging a standard 4 pin into the wrong location and smoking the board. Even though you actually have to work pretty hard at it I guess it happened quite often.

So everything seems to work fine as it is, is it then not important to use the second connection? By actually using it and plugging both of them in will I gain anything from it?

You may gain stability or a little more of an overclock. It will supply power more directly to the components rather than require it to travel through board traces from other components. Same principle as external power connectors on video cards..
