I need help to buy a new mobo, thanks

Hello Guys,
I would really appreciate yours comments on which mobo i should buy for my new computer... i am used to know alot about computers.... but 2 years ago i started to work for an isp... and so i got no life anymore :P. I missed alots since the past 2 years and my poor p4 dont do the job anymore.

I would like to buy a Q6600 processor and i need the mobo to go with. That may sound geek... but i love big computer, im planning to buy a BFG geforce 8800 ultra, but im prolly not go into the sli technology... cost too much cash for nothing if u ask me... anyway... i looked some post now and then and i think i should buy the "Asus Maximus Formula" ( i think she is still supporting the DDR2 ) ... its not that i dont like DDR3.... im just a bit confuse about all of those new technology...

well... i would really like to hear from you guys,

Thanks!

there is only 2 x38 boards that supports ddr3 right now. but that doesn't matter because i would stick with ddr2 for now anyways. i would hold off buying anything until mid nov. there are some new video cards coming out and more x38 boards should be in circulation.

Cool

I know there are a lot of people out there that would argue with me on this, but I've been using the Intel Flagship Mobo (Bad Axe 2) and I think it kicks!
Very easy to overclock with & has the Rock Solid Intel backbone.
This is the only mobo to date that Intel has put out that has ALL the tools you need in the bios to overclock well. Frequency, Voltage, Timings, etc.
Check it out...I've been running my Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 @ 3Ghz, 1200Mhz FSB, 900Mhz Memory for a long time with no problems at all. Very Stable system. This also is built for the new Quad Core series processors...

Since I can't post a link to a review as a new user, you'll just have to Google it. Look for Roundup tests of motherboards aimed at Intel Core 2 Duo processors on Digital-Daily.com

Where at in AZ? I'm in N.Phoenix

The BadAxe2 is actually a great board, but there is better out there in the same price range.

I don't think I would try to jump on a DDR3 board right now, the price to performance ratio just isn't there. Best board I have found to date for a Quad is the Asus P5K premi I am using now. Clocks like a dream, fast, and is stable at 550FSB with anything you can throw at it..

Welcome to AOA, MUff1N!

Bad Axe 2. Definitely a board to consider.

Thanks for the welcome cloasters!
Where in AZ ccperf721p? Up here in the Mountains in Payson...

I've read both good and bad about the 975XBX2, but for me it works very well! A bit on the pricey side though for what it is.
The bios interface is very user friendly to where even a first timer can easily overclock with it. But that's just my opinion.
I mostly use this system for video gaming so it's gets stressed for hours on end...hehe!
I also overclock my eVGA 8800GTS most of the time to GTX clock speeds, (575/900) but if I run into an area on a game such as Rainbow 6 Vegas that has some lag, I'll go ahead and MAX out the clock speed to as fast as it will go -10Mhz for stability (612Mhz GPU & 1020Mhz Memory) through that section of the game using the profiles Hotkeys using ATiTool.
