Unhappy Fate worse than death

My son's PC houses a celeron 566. It has been stable as a rock until a few months ago, running 892@2v for 18 months. Oddly, it started quitting the network connection. Well... it has gotten worse. I thought hdd was dying and tried reformatting last week. Tonight, I just did it again. Didn't fix my lock up at booting. Then I thought, maybe the CPU is the problem. I had to clock it down all the way to stock, just to get it to complete the boot.. grr. It still needs extra juice too. 1.5v doesn't cut it anymore. It needs 1.7v even at stock.

This valient 566 is doomed to a fate worse than death. In its prime, it oc'd 60%!!! Well, maybe over the weekend, I'll replace the HSF w/ a G-lite I have lying around, but I'm not optimistic. Temps are in the low 30s under load.

Oh the shame of it. This chip deserves better than to fade away at stock.

im thinking, perhaps one of us should volunteer their garden to become a CPU cemetary? our valient little wafers of silicon deserve more dignity than merely being sent plumetting into the bin. They have fought bravely for a cause, a just and noble cause and as such deserve every honour that we can bestow upon them, even in death...

Perhaps we should put them on little boats, set the boats a-blaze, and send our silicon friends on to Valhalla then???

It would be a good idea, but it is unable to run at stock voltage (1.5v) any more either. My son will never notice. It's the folding times that have me down.

You could pick up a Celeron 800 for three magic beans and a fist full of dirt, just an idea . . .
