Throwing multiple cores into the mix isn't difficult if you get your initial design right. In fact, it becomes pretty darn easy.

There are still quite a few Loyal AMD customers out there that would rather die than use Intel!!!
I personally know a few of them in the gaming world and they could care less that Intel now out performs AMD 2 to 1!

I was gonna buy an Atom mini-ITX board but I was seduced by the intel D201GLY2 which is another mini-ITX board but with a 1.2 celery, found it on closeout for $39.99.

Problem is, what does AMD have that competes in the same space as Intel's Atom?

I'm one of the AMD lovers... but my laptop runs a Core2Duo (merom) and my desktop runs a Core2Quad (yorkfield). Fact is common sense trumps religion sadly.

That said, AMD still do sort of well in the budget space, and it seams to be much easier to build AMD based media PCs still, perhaps due to the fact that there are more AMD type motherboards available than there are intel in HTPC systems.

There's still the 3rd player that isn't really down and out yet. VIA is still in existance, and the VIA nano really doesn't suck when it comes to competing with intel's Atom chips.

My families desk PCs are all AM2s at the mo - apart from mothers (8 year old Socket A) but when I do replace this it will most likely be AM2. This isn't out of brand loyalty - more likely to be because someone else in the family will upgrade their processor to a better AM2 (before flamers start on this comment - there's just no need) - so I'll have "free" spares floating around to use.
