Abit-BP6 boot problems

I've got this board to start to boot once, it got to the point of needing to enter cmos but it didn't recognize the USP mouse. I had to cut power and use a PS2 mouse. I haven't gotten it to post since.
Is there something about cutting power that causes post problems?
I have got a bios beep on many occasions but then only way to continue is to cut power and then I loose the bios beep.
Last example.
I held bios beep, checking after attaching the board. Good. install memory. good. install drives, good. install video card. it's dead.
I start removing components one by one checking for bios beep along the way. There isn't any. I get every thing removed. no beep. I unattached the board and I get a beep. I put in a stick of memory, no beep. I remove the memory and no beep. This is driving me nuts. The only thing I can think of is that it's having a negative reaction to having power cut. Ideas?

I have this problem posted on 3 forums, here, Overclockers, and the BP6 Network Community. There has not been a single response. With all that knowledge out there somebody has to have some kind of idea. If it sounds dumb, lets hear it. If it's just an off the wall guess, lets hear it. I am clean out of ideas except to keep turning it on and hoping that this time will be the time it goes all the way through and that is a dumb way to run a railroad!

I bought a BP6 when they were new. Dead as a doornail, ugh. For some reason, checking the CMOS battery comes to mind. Maybe this longshot will help, maybe.

That has some promise-I'll try that in the morning.

edit:
But don't stop thinking guys, there is something here and I can't help but think it might have to do with cutting power instead of doing a shut down. Just a feeling.

That didn't work. I thought that had a possibility too. Well, now what?

Perhaps the board's BIOS doesn't "know" how to act when presented with a modern OS to interface with?

That's not it. This happens at every step of the process.
From the beginning test where only the CPU's are in the board. Sometimes I'll get a bios beep there-sometimes I won't. No rhyme nor reason that I can figure.

Maybe the m'board has physical damage that's too hard to see? A solder trace could be cracked on odd days, but not the even ones? This is probably possible, somewhere within the four layers, ~kinda sorta. Are any of the power caps looking suspicious?

I went over the caps with a flashlight but that doesn't mean I didn't miss something. I think it's time to throw in the towel. I realy wanted to play with this thing too. OH, well, anybody want a couple of 366Mhz cellys with golden orb HSF?

I knew a guy who had a five foot high mountain of discarded circuit boards in front of his garage. Maybe it's time to give up on this m'board? Intermittent probs are the worst, yeah, like you didn't know that.

And MY nature tells me that S.O.B. is sitting over there in it's anti-static bag with a little smirk and a low chuckle when my backs turned. There is an answer to it somwhere but I just can't find it, and I can hear it chuckle!

Now that you've been at this awhile I'll throw in my 1 cent worth.
From the start I thought it was time to throw it in the garbage...but I didn't want to discourage you & there was also the outside chance that you might actually get it figured out and fixed...
But, it seems like my original thoughts on this were right...
