Post Sneak peek on up coming Gigabyte X58 Extreme mobo...

These new boards are going to be really different with a whole new set of rules for OCing...
I'm sure though with this group we'll get it figured out and crankin!

One thing I really like is that these new boards is they will support either SLI or Crossfire!

I wonder if these mobos are going to fit into standard ATX form factor cases or not? hmmm
At any rate, I'm sure you could mod the tray to make it fit as long as it's not too much different.

I'm thinking now that I should just hang out & wait another year before considering any upgrades to see where all
this is going & wait for prices to stablize out on this new technology.
I'm sure by then you guys will have the OCing figured out with this setup too.

THEN it WILL be a Major Upgrade!!!

Pictured below: Gigabyte X58 Extreme (Sample v0.2)

Last Picture: Gigabyte X58 Extreme Final version (I like the sample better myself!)

All you got to do is Google it & you'll have more links than you know what to do with!
There's a number of different versions of this mobo out there, but I like v0.2 the best as far as looks.

Let's see, the way it looks to me, if i was to upgrade to that the only part of my rig that i can carry over is the keyboard & mouse! In order to make the $ for the build, either Mareen or me would have to turn tricks!
She can't and I'll be damned if I will so I guess i can take that off the wish list! LOL

One way to describe this thing.

LOTS.

LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS.

I like it. The F450 of motherboards, complete with skull on the bonnet and gunrack on the back.

This will be the same as with any new tech that comes out.
At first it's going to cost more money than your car does, then later on after the initial excitement wares off & everyone & their brother & sister is making these in any form or flavor you can think of they will become reasonably priced.

Then a year after that the prices will drop again as they come out with additional "Tweaks" that will make them even faster & more energy efficient & that's when I will start shopping for the parts for the new system.

By then they'll also have the new chipsets down pat for supporting the revised DDR3 that will run at DDR2 latencies but at DDR3 speeds combined with
large capacity SSD HD's & this new system will make our current systems look very slow in comparison.
Now that's a Systems UPGRADE!!!

You know my bottom line is exactly the same!

I have never been in the mid-range of computers untill now and It's been almost 20yrs since my 8086. SSA is rather limiting sometimes.
I have never looked at a board, much less thought I might get one, like that DFI P35. One never forgets his first love!

The EGG has it on sale for $109! Guess what?

This is where you should have bought it to begin with.
I'd never buy anything on ebay myself...but that's just me.
To me it reminds me of a "Park & Swap" type of buying place online..
No thanks.

If you want cheap, go with the open box stuff they got at Newegg.
Most of the open box stuff hasn't even been used. It just has the seal broken on the box is all so they have to sell it as open box.

If everything works out like you want it to, this new board should be up & screamin fast pretty soon here!

I didn't get it off ebay. The source is quite reputable! It's Polygon, the administrator of The New Rebels Haven Forum. I've sent the board back and he has refunded my $75 back into PayPal. Though it takes 3 to 5 business days for PayPal to verify. PayPal has informed me so I have to wait until Wed. or Thurs. before I can order. Remember I said that I was aware of Murphy's Law? S.O.B. has been busy!
The board will probably go off sale Tuesday!

Before you start clocking higher on the CPU, keep in mind the heat!
I'm telling you right now that Arctic Freezer Pro 7 isn't going to cut it like my Asus cooler didn't for me.
It's better than a stock cooler, but in the end will limit your speeds because of heat build up.

So you might as well start shopping for a good CPU cooler.
It does make a BIG difference having say a Zalman CPNS9700 all copper cooler over a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 that's aluminum.
Well you've seen my temps on this cooler so I don't have to tell you.

Paypal says they will release the funds today. The minute they do i order the Asus P5Q Pro for $99.99!
Ya, baby!

I am aware that the fly in the ointment will be the Freezer 7 and the sale of the Biostar board starts the fund for a new cooler. I haven't been finding very much in the way of decent free computers or parts on Craigs List since the two servers. That means there is no $ in the computer fund!
Each one of these servers are being listed for +/- $350.
But that is complete and in that kind of market. I'd be lucky to get $50 to $75 if i can find a way to sell them.
Any suggestions?

The promo code was no longer valid. That changed things. the last MIR I had was refused, I don't expect any thing else here. I can't afford the Pro.
Leaves me the P5Q and the P5Q SE. I chose the P5Q open box for $102 total. The best I could get and stay around my $100 dolar mark. I can get everything from Asus. I even found the I/O panel in their store for $10.
They have a store, who'd a thunk it?

Even for the P5Q $102 is still a great price!
