New rig time

I'm going to build a new Intel based rig this month. Looking for some recommendations on CPU and motherboard.

Probably go for a Core 2 Quad, mid-priced, with good overclock potential.
Perhaps a Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz 1333MHz.

For the board, I'm looking at either Asus or Gigabyte.

2GB of 1333MHz RAM.

Any suggestions?

I'm using the Plain Jane P5Q with a 2.44, 4 core, love it! But I'm in no position to make comparisons...

I dont think you can go far wrong with any p45 chipset especially the asus ones, really stable and great support (albeit a slow website)

If your a gamer the 8600 is for you. if you do more grunt work with your rig, go for a Quad.Depending on your budget, these things can be beastly.

good luck on your build.

I've got an 8800 GTX already, in my existing rig.

Haven't decided what to get for this new rig, could just get a cheap card for my old rig, and put the 8800 GTX in the new one.
