Need recommendations please

Through the what I've learned the last couple of days, I have scrapped the boards I was looking at. I'm starting over and would like some recommendations.
I want a board that is no more than $120.
These are my specs:
Win XP PRO SP3
No Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
Xclio GoodPower 500w ATX PSU
IBM 80Gb HDD
IBM 20Gb HDD
2Gb (2x1Gb) G.Skill PC2-6400 Dual Channel DDR2 CL4.4.4.12 2.0v
KAF2 Geforce 9600GT OC 512Mb PCI-e Video

I want an ATX board, a board that will OC well, and it can't have PCI-e 2.
hopefully 3 PCI slots and [I know, I'm asking to much!]
2 IDE connections.

I've just had this Asus board recommended, haven't had time to look it yet. $85

Newegg.com - ASUS P5K SE EPU LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Everything looks good-I took a quick look at the EGG- except for that PCI-e 2.0

I have an unconfirmed report that my 9600gt won't fly in that slot. I'll have a look at that too, i guess.

Being an Intel chipset it should work. Normally it is only Via chipsets that have issues working with PCIe 1.0 cards.

I believe that Daniel has this exact same mobo & he's running a 8800GTS 640 in it. (Screenshot)
Btw, PCI-E 2.0 x 16 is backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 x 16

you guy's are tops! I didn't know where I was going to find the time to track down thar pesky rumor. It takes me at least 1/2 day to decide if a board is on the short list or not. I didn't have that kind of time with the Biostar. It cost me, and not the fact that it failed.

Anyway, once the grunt work is done. gathering specs, reading customer reviews, the real work begins.
So, knowing i probly would not have the time to track down that rumor. I just eliminated it.You put it back in!

OK, My work is layedout for me today. I have two Asus boards to look at. Muff1n, your P45 at $119- and theother is a P35 for $85.
Thanks agian guys-I'm off to see the wizzard

If you don't care about the cables & stuff that comes in the box, you can get the Open Box P5Q & it will save you about $30 or so.

Open Box: ASUS P5Q LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

I don't need cables or wire jumpers, Drivers and such can be had easily enough. I have half a dozen I/O panels but I doubt one will fit that with 7.1 audio.
It's not a deal breaker-Sombody might even have one.
We shall see.

Sounds like you already ordered it...
If so I'm PRAYING that it will be the best mobo you have ever owned & take your system to clock speed previously thought to be unattainable!

I admit it is the front runner. P45 flashes in my eyes!
But haven't had time to reasearch. RMA arrived today!
That was quick. I just put it up on Craigs List for $40.
With the $75 from the DFI, I'm in good shape for a board! I can kick in a few schekels if need be! Ya Baby!

PCI-E 2.0 x16 is backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 x16 on Intel and nVidia and ATi chipsets. NOT on VIA chipsets, I learnt this the hardware on a customers machine.

You are a gentleman and a Schiller, kind sir!
Unless that is an insult down where you're at, then you're just a Rondog!

I can find no higher praise. As I first heard that term from someone who I believed to be a gentleman and a scholar.

Thanks PorPorMe.

There have not been very many people in my life that I can say that I could truly respect and honor. To receive the gift of a personal compliment from one of them was a priceless gift, to be held close to the heart with pride. Sounds to me like you know what you were given.

P.S.
Thanks for the info. I figured you had to be in the bis somehow.

Edit:
I just got my hands on two Compaq Proliant 1600 servers. I'll sell them to you only for the low, low price of $150 each.
Of course you pay shipping!!!

Well, mine are cheeper!
And BOTH of mine are dual CPU, though I have to say yours are a bit faster than mine.
One has a pair of plll 600's and the other one is 866's!
I had 2 days of fun getting the plll 600 rig up and running. i started with it because it was the only one that would post!
I won't get back to either one of them for at least a month. Got to play with the P5Q Pro!
OC the E4300 and the 9600GT and then I can get folding agian! It's been to long.

Shiny new toys are always much more fun to play with.

EDIT: Are either of the PIII CPU's Tuatalin's by any chance?

I don't know for sure but I doubt it. Both are slots not sockets. If slot cpu's came with that core, let me know and i'll pull them and find out.
