The link you provided is regarding 8600 cards. Do you not have a 9600?

I see lots of users with 9600/P5Q combinations when I search. I see some with problems for assorted things, as always, but others running fine. There is some controversy about this 2.0/1.1/1.0 issue.

You may want to check this post and the thread in general:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post14739637

If ASUS didn't include backward compatibility for 1.1 that is truly a colossal blunder; my guess would be that they did include it in the architecture but whoever wrote the BIOS did something wrong and this would be corrected by a BIOS update to come[if folks can wait that long].

But I'm guessing.

I am a little puzzled as well. This makes no sense.

Will it work with the PCI card? If so, have you tried the 9600 in another board?

Mabe I am reading more into it than there is.I just don't know anymore. This lack of sleep is hitting me pretty hard. Trying to figureout the video card problem. Then there is the HDD poblem. The board won't recognize my 80g, the 20g it see's as a 2g. the only other drive i've got is a 40g but it has all my music on it.
I thought I'd let fdisk take a look at my 80g. It doesn't see it either.

I might have a little breathing room. a guy has an 80g Western Digital for $20. If things go right I'll pick that up today.
I guess I'm in a holding pattern on the video card-I don't know any thing else to do and I'm tired of tring, or maybe just tired.

PPM:
Please do yourself a favor before making your next move and post your problem with my friends at the forum I've provided below. There are some extremely knowledgeable guys there who may be able to sort you out:

ASUS Independent

This forum is not related to or approved by ASUS; but the founder was an ASUS employee who felt users deserved better support than they could get from ASUS's official support. If these guys can't help you then there is no answer. It might take a short time for them to get to you but they will, I'm quite sure.

You had the exact same problem with the Bloodiron you purchased and returned. Seeing how the 9600GT is PCI-E 2.0 compliant you might want to look into the possibility of a dead video card and not a compatibility problem.

Thanks. I'm going to drop it for a couple days. Let things settle. Then I'll head for that link. I sure wasn't impressed with the official site. I knew more about he problem than they did.

Correct me, but I don't recall having a specific problem with the video card, It wouldn't boot no matter what I did. And the card worked great in The Biostar. Agreed, I would like to have another computer to put it into, but I don't so.......

Bingo!
I put an add in Craigslist for someone to put my card in there rig and test it. Blank screen. He had his speaker disconnected so no info on bios beeps-that would have been nice to know. The Biostar must have taken the vid card out when it went. only think of-will never kmow of course but atleast I know now.

How did you do that so quickly? I'm amazed that you were able to get a perfect stranger to do such a thing, but I'm glad for you that you can now "RMA with confidence" - lol

I'm not going to be posting for a while. i can see by my own posts something I knew- this lack of sleep is doing a number on my thinking. My appologies when I wasn't on track and you guys were trying to help.
I need to back out and get a handle on this. Be Back after a while. If you would, post this somewhere else? Some others might want to know.
